Review for HALO Animal Rescue, Phoenix, AZ, USA
Halo knowingly put a 3 month old kitten up for adoption at Petco with a broken leg. Neither myself, as the adopter, nor the Petco staff was informed of this injury. When asked about it, they minimized the injury stating it would just potentially lead to arthritis when the kitten was older. A month later, it was clear that the leg was going to need amputation due to the elbow freezing and ongoing pain. At first, Halo attempted to manipulate the situation stating that it would be “emotionally taxing” to remove the leg and that they wouldn’t do it for their own pets. The rescue then refused to do anything to assist with surgery unless I surrendered the kitten back into their care to be seen by two vets before potentially doing the surgery. I said I wasn’t comfortable with that when I knew that the odds were that they would put her down due to the cost of care. The manager I spoke with ignored my concerns and continued with saying there was nothing they could do. I am appalled that these people call themselves a rescue and work with large companies like Petco/Petsmart. It has been like pulling teeth trying to get any vet records from these people, so that I can take care of a kitten they neglected. It took several days to get partial info and I only received the rest when I reached out to their vet directly. The only help I received from Halo is refunding my $150 adoption fee and I still have to pay $2,500 for my kitten’s leg to be amputated.
