Review for Crayon Collection, Los Angeles, CA, USA
The crayon collection is a great non-profit driven to improving he lives and education of children, particularly those without access to resources like art supplies and other creative materials essential to learning at an early age. I have every confidence that every dollar raised at this non profit is used efficiently, as they seek to source materials (crayons) that are essentially free but need an organization to collect them and distribute them. I am a professional artist, and like many other artists, I volunteered to design a classroom activity using the crayons which are donated by restaurants and individuals. I have also taught my own lesson to kids in a couple different classrooms and it was a magical experience. In my case, the kids were given a bag of crayons to take home, and it was like they each received the most wonderful present. And they really loved the activity which was designed to tie into be core curriculum required by public schools. I firmly believe that kids learn through visual art based activities, but many public schools lack the resources and time to teach this way, which breaks through the tedium, and motivates kids in ways that the usual classroom activities cannot. I hope the Crayon Collection continues to strive to bridge this gap. I really love the way they tap into so many different communities (professional artists, restaurants, educators, environmentalists looking to reduce and reuse) to make good things happen.
