Review for For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Plymouth Meeting, PA, USA
My wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in June of 2019. While receiving treatment our social worker asked our permission to submit our names to a respite foundation she felt we would be a good fit for. A month or so later my wife received a call from For Pete's Sake. She completed a phone interview and a couple of weeks later we were informed that they were going to send us on respite. All of us: me, my wife, our 9 year old daughter, and our 6 year old son. Needless to say, we were floored and cried right there in the kitchen. Little did we know For Pete's Sake was just getting started. They were sending us to Florida and they sent us some preliminary information. We were going to be booked at a cabin in an RV park. This was perfect! Our family camps a lot and we felt this was a very customized fit. It had a pool, mini golf, a basketball court. We would have a great time, and it was in Kissimmee. So we started thinking maybe we would be able to take the kids to Disney for a day. Boy were we mistaken! The RV park was just where we were staying. Our trip was to include a day at a Disneypark of our choice, 2 days at Universal, and a day at Sea World! It still makes me smile and cry a little when I think about it now. They really took care of everything (convenient flight, special travel bags filled with goodies customized for us and the kids, rental car w/EZ Pass, per diem, and special fast pass for Universal) so that we could truly relax, enjoy each other's company, and truly "Take a Break from Cancer." The people at the foundation are kind, compassionate, and thorough. We will spend the rest of our lives trying to pay this forward. We are forever grateful!
