Spoiler alert: Just One Africa (J1A) is an amazing, innovative non-profit organization! 

We were first introduced to J1A by, of all things, shopping! As we reviewed numerous online retailers for holiday gifts that were sustainable and gave back to impoverished communities overseas, we stumbled across J1A. While other charities purport to donate 10%, 5%, or even as little as 2% of proceeds to their intended recipients, J1A donates substantially more, both in terms of financial assistance as well as the time and training needed to educate communities in Kenya about clean water resources and long-term sustainability. 

Special shout out to J1A Program Director Christina Hightower for organizing and executing so many fantastic events, as well as managing the org's digital platform and creating content that is accessible and engaging for all potential supporters. Could not be more impressed with the way she provides world-class customer service and handles so many outreach initiatives!

We're currently based in NYC and have not yet had the opportunity to participate in any local volunteer activities, but are definitely looking forward to advocating remotely and maybe even taking an experience trip to Kenya one day!! Many of our friends and neighbors up here have never heard of J1A so we love gifting the beautiful handcrafted items available through their site and sharing the organization's story. We echo all of the sentiments that have already been published here on Greatnonprofits.org and hope that anyone reading is convinced that Just One Africa represents a great chance to advocate for people in need.
