Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services, International, International Development, Water, Women, Women's Centers

Mission: Just One Africa is a 501(c)3 nonprofit partnering with local leaders in Kenya to create sustainable solutions for orphans and vulnerable children by addressing the clean water crisis and creating hope through care, education, and community development. Access to clean, safe water is a catalyst for change and the first step to elevating communities from of a cycle of sickness and poverty to one of health and hope.

Results: As of June 2019, we have distributed over 5500 water filters to widows, families, schools, and orphanages. These filters have brought clean, safe drinking water to over 136,000 people. We have completed a number of school buildings, and have built 3 kitchens to feed children at an orphanage, school, and rescue center. We have provided bunk beds, mattresses, bedding, mosquito nets, hundreds of chairs, cups and plates, basic hand tools, a farm plow, built a number of rocket stoves, bought dairy cows, malaria medicine for an orphanage, purchased a full curriculum for grades k-3 for a new school and installed a solar-powered lighting system for an orphanage home to allow the children to do homework after dark. Each time we travel to Kenya, we take with us children's clothes, shoes, and educational materials donated by schools along with sports equipment. We have so much more to do... In 2016, we completed the first deep-water well! This continues to provide reliable source water for a school and rescue center, for hundreds of families in a drought-stricken area of Kenya, irrigation for crops, as well as provide a sustainable source of income for the school and rescue center. Our Beads-for-Water water program has been extremely successful. We have an online store where you can purchase beautiful, handmade bracelets, each providing over 200,000 gallons of clean water. Find out more and shop at https://shop.justoneafrica.org.

Target demographics: Orphans, neglected children and street children. Widows who are raising children by themselves. Families who are getting their drinking water from unimproved water sources.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Provide clean water for 30,000 people and built a school building and dormitories.

Geographic areas served: Kenya

Programs: Vulnerable Children, Clean Water, Orphan Support, Trauma Therapy, Widow Support, Women Empowerment, Sustainable Projects and Community Development.

My family and I first learned about Just one Africa when our daughter was in Kindergarten and over the next twelve years, we started hearing and learning more and more about how together they create hope, re-write futures and change the world with Just One Person at a time. That is what stuck with my family and I; and the more we continued to learn about their work in Kenya and their impact, we were compelled and knew this is the ministry we would like to be a part of. The ministry is very involved both in the US community as well as the Kenyan community. They have many opportunities where people can serve as a family, get involved and learn more about their story. While we may not be able to change the world, we can make a difference with one person at a time. Just One Africa is an amazing and authentic ministry and the founders are deeply rooted in walking in obedience on how the Lord is leading them to serve in Kenya. I give thanks to the team at Just One Africa for their sacrifice and service in ensuring that no child is left behind, equipping communities on clean water programs and educating families on cultural cycles that are prohibited, because every girl matters!

I started volunteering with Just One Africa when our daughter became involved. I like to know that when I am supporting a group, that at least 90 percent of what I am doing or giving goes directly to the cause and with Just One I understand it is higher. It has been so enjoyable to go and work on their volunteer days...Meeting people from all walks of life, working on projects that raise money for clean water for communities in Kenya and knowing you are helping other women around the world become strong so that they can help their families and community. It’s nice to remember “Just One” can make a difference.

Just One Africa came to our school, Coleman Middle, to speak to 7th graders about water in Africa. They created such empathy and a buzz that students wanted to help and raise money for them. Kids can tell you all about water, water filters, and even help string bracelets. The kids were so moved they are now creating art pieces to sell and give the profits to just one Africa! This is the first PBL project my personal son has been excited about and he can't stop talking about it. They truly made a difference to our kids!

Just One Africa has been influential in our students' lives. As a teacher and now a school administrator, working with Just One Africa has allowed us to build a knowledge base and empathy within our students. From demonstrations and club activities, our students have gained a deeper understanding of the needs and struggles of others. As our partnership with Just One Africa continues to grow, we look forward to aiding in the progress they are making in the region.

Additionally, my son completed an internship with Just One Africa this past summer in Kenya. These experiences gave him an opportunity to work with officials and professionals from the region on improving the conditions for the people of the area. He worked with Just One and partners to ensure individuals received the filters and training needed for sustainability.

I started with J1A in the 6th grade when I was asked to join the club. I immediately fell in love with their mission and the people I had met with in the first year. I am now a rising sophomore and I have been involved with Just One Africa for the past 4 years. Over those years I have learned to love unconditionally, smile always, and give 110% in all circumstances. I have looked to the people I work with as my friends, mentors and family. I have found a love and passion for something that is bigger and better than I could have ever imagined. I have had important conversations with people, educated people and served on a level I never thought possible. Through my journey I have seen the impacts one person, One school, and one community can make. I have met the most important people I will probably ever meet and I am forever grateful for that. The people I have met throughout my journey are people I can call at any moment. They are people who check in with me constantly and never fail to leave a smile on my face. These people are the most selfless kind caring passionate sweet human beings I’ve ever met. They check up on me always even when they’re in Across the world and never fail to put a smile on my face! They are kind and funny and love helping others. Mrs Amy is the founder. A sweet kind loving person who puts herself before others everyday. She has never failed to stand by me and support me with anything I want to do. She gives me advice when she feels it’s needed and she has given me so many opportunities to do what I love with the people I love. All of the people I have met through doing this hold a special place in my heart and are people who never fail to let me down. I have learned so much from each of these people whether it’s been 4months or 4years. I am so very proud of each and everyone of these people as they use their voice to create a significant impact just one person at a time. I am proud to call these people family and I am proud to be apart of the amazing organization and what it has become throughout the 4 years I’ve seen it grow.

I love the J1A slogan, "I am One". For me, the journey started when my coworker gave me a necklace that was purchased from J1A. I felt good about wearing something that was delicately crafted by the sweet hands of a woman from a continent far, far away. That purchase helped her and her family. It made me feel connected to her in some small way. Then a friend bought me wine charms from J1A as a house warming gift. Two special women in my life who don't know each other, both bought me gifts from J1A. This made me curious about what J1A was doing in Kenya. So I Googled "Just One Africa". I had no idea how much they were really doing on the ground. It lit a spark for me. My friend had been volunteering with them for a few years and I never really asked her about it. She shared with me that there was an upcoming summer experience trip to Kenya. We decided it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we had to go. Amy, Clay & their Kenyan partners did such an incredible job crafting our experience. It was 100% perfect in every way. Twenty three people left the US and met up in Amsterdam for the trip of a lifetime. Little did we know, our lives would be forever changed. We spent a week with two of the J1A partners and the experiences were life changing & so incredibly inspiring. We got a behind the scenes peak into the life of a Maasai tribe. They showed us how to make fire, how to build homes, how to clean huts, and how to dance! It was fascinating learning about their culture. We went to the livestock market and bought goats which was a once in a lifetime experience (I hope). We got to participate in the Day of the African Child. It was heartwarming to see the local leaders support the boy / girl child. It was such a fun day. We met women that participate in the bead program. They shared their jewelry and crafts with us. Such beautiful creations that we were able to bring home and share with friends and family. We hosted water distribution trainings and shared information about hygiene. We even got the opportunity to do follow ups with people that had been using the filters for several months. People shared stories about what they were doing with the money that they saved each month now that they didn't have to purchase water or medications. One gentleman bought a new roof and solar lights. To us, that might not sound like a big deal, but to him, it was life changing. One filter can change so many lives. It opens doors for people. If there is one thing I loved about Kenya, it was the people. They were always smiling and always quick to share their hearts. I'm not sure I've ever experienced joy like I did in Kenya. If I was going to sum up this trip with one word, it would absolutely be Joy. It was such a good reminder that we can all be one for somebody. I can't wait to go back and see all the kids and hear about what they've been doing since our short time together. If you are looking to support a non-profit or take an experience trip, this is the organization for you.

In June I took a two week trip to Kenya with Just One Africa. I went with a team of 23 people to learn about the mission of Just One Africa and what that looks like on the ground in Kenya. We distributed water filters in communities without access to clean water, and learned first hand what a difference pure water makes to the health, wellbeing, and success of a community. I feel so blessed to have seen the life changing impact of Just One Africa's water filters, and loved getting to know the wonderful people of Kenya. I can't wait to return!

My wife and I spent two weeks in early June with the Just One team for an experience trip to Kenya. We spent a week a piece with two of Just One's Kenyan partners. Just One's passion for their partners and the communities they serve was amazing to see first hand. The love and care Just One provides was life-changing; both for the communities and for us! It was so rewarding to meet the partners, staff and most of all the children and community members in each community we worked. From helping distribute water filters, to worshipping with the children and celebrating the national "Day of the African Child", our lives have been forever changed. This is thanks to the wonderful work that Just One Africa does. The trip was well organized, and traveling with 23 people, this was no easy feat! We all felt safe, secure, cared for and, of course, well fed. Just One is doing amazing things for these Kenyan communities and it was an honor and a privilege to be a small part of it.

I just returned from a two week mission trip to Kenya with Just One Africa with a team of 23 people who love serving & changing the lives of young orphans and those “without” access to clean, pure water. We spent ~ a week in the Great Rift Valley & the 2nd week just north of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Over 120 families will have access to an unlimited supply now with Uzima filter. After more than 6 trips, I never cease to be amazed at the joy I get on these outreaches. I’m already starting to make plans for my next trip with Just One Africa!

My daughter and I had the privilege to travel with JOA to Kenya recently. Words cannot describe the experience we had. JOA is doing an awesome job of helping their Kenyan partners in touch so many lives. From rescuing kids and providing them safe haven to educating them and empowering them. Providing clean water and saving countless lives. Empowering local Masai women with bead programs. JOA has also funded many sustainability projects. Everything we did there for two weeks touched some one in some way. We even ate and shopped at places that supports the local artists and women. We felt totally alive every moment on the trip as we were living for someone else.

As a volunteer working behind the scenes with Just One Africa performing various tasks that help keep the momentum of change in motion, it is my delight to see all the amazing changes they are able to make in the lives of SO many. The heart behind Just One Africa and it's founders is that change happen in everyONE's life touched by their presence. No ONE person or ONE life is to be untouched. The process begins in Kenya and touches lives across oceans then ultimately returns back to the communities in Kenya, where it began. The beads from the bead program are hand made buy the widows and young mothers in Kenya, purchased by J1A and brought here to the states where teens in the "I AM One" clubs string the beads and then teams of volunteers and others, finalize the process of turning these beads into beautiful jewelry, ornaments, bookmarks and the like. With every touch to these products, lives are being changed for the better, knowing they are making a difference for someONE. This organization is true to who they say they are. The founders gracefully demonstrate an earthy example of what Jesus asks of us as servants and disciples. To be able to serve with an organization who positively impacts the number of lives that Just One Africa does, is honestly humbling to me! The work they do is awww-inspiring and encouraging to me! Just One Africa provides hope where hope seems impossible and it is done from a true servants HEART!

I had the privilege of hearing Amy (Director/Co-Founder) speak at an event in my hometown all the way in Minnesota and wow! It's truly incredible how this organization uses so many practical resources to not only help those in multiple communities around Kenya, but to keep building upon them as well. They truly understand the term "sustainable growth" and are demonstrating that in all that they do. From their amazing water filters, to beautiful handcrafted beaded jewelry, to dairy cows, and so much more, this organization knows how build up communities in so many simple, yet innovative ways. Keep up the awesome work Just One Africa!! :D

My wife and I had the opportunity to have dinner with the founders, Clay and Amy Churchill. When we got to hear their heart and passion for everything happening in Kenya, we were both so moved and wanted to find a way to be a part! We own a small business, and believe in what they're doing so much, we decided we wanted to begin donating a portion of every sale to Just One Africa's clean water campaign, and are so excited to begin sowing into the great work they're doing in Kenya! It's such an honor to be a part of something so impactful. We trust that our finances are not just being given away, but invested into truly sustainable change in the communities they work with. So thankful for the opportunity to meet the founders and be a part of this great cause!

I worked on a fundraising campaign for Just One Africa with a gym I belong to. The fundraiser was a huge success in great part due to the level of professionalism and excellence with which Just One Africa operates. Once they received the proceeds of our fundraiser, Amy from Just One Africa traveled to Kenya and immediately put our funds to work, providing water filters for a local community. She sent us us pictures and an update videos on the work they were doing. It was really rewarding to see our gym logo on water filters across the globe, but more than that, to see and hear about the impact of our donations directly from the families in Kenya. I plan to continue partnering with Just One Africa in the years to come.

My daughter served with Just One for a month in Kenya this summer. Her experience with Just One, the Hope Beyond school, Dorcus and the Churchills was indescribable and life changing. She spent a month working closely with the kids, shadowing the social workers and experiencing life in rural Kenya first hand. The organization is extremely well run. They support the local community and students through the school and water filter distribution. Many of the children they work with have recently left child marriages and have little formal education. Our daughter has already talked about returning to Kenya with Just One.

Just One Africa is an AMAZING organization that makes a tremendous difference in Kenya. As a donor, I know the money I give is being used wisely. The organization regularly shares photos and information via social media to keep us informed on projects. I, along with other donors, have also been given the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the Kenyan community leaders the organization works with and have heard directly from them about the work being done there.

In addition to their great work in Kenya, Just One Africa does amazing work in their local community. As a teacher, I sponsor my school's Just One club; I love interacting with the students and Amy Churchill as the students participate in life-changing work. JOA has helped to create these clubs at numerous schools in the area. Furthermore, Mrs. Churchill has been incredibly generous with her time and has come to share about her organization's clean water program with my social studies students for many years now. I am so grateful for this organization and how it helps make learning more meaningful for students.

Just One Africa does amazing work in Kenya and partners with local leaders in a way that leads to real change in communities. I have gone on several trips with them and can personally attest to their integrity and character both in Kenya and here in Ga. I love what they are doing and how they are changing the world for just one person at a time!
