Review for The PRASAD Project, Inc., Liberty, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This year, after years of holding an annual fundraiser for PRASAD in the USA, I had a golden opportunity to visit PRASAD Chikitsa in India and tour their great work there. As I poured milk for one of the many small children sitting patiently on the floor of a small, rural preschool the boy receiving the milk looked up at me with so much love and gratitude. His eyes were as wide as saucers, moist and glistening like a precious gem. I realized that yes, this boy did need precious food that I was very happy to help make possible for him, but the love I received from him was also invaluable and something I will always cherish in my heart.

I have always wanted to help feed everyone in the world. PRASAD, in the 5 years I have been working closely with them, has shown me the importance of listening to the people we serve, and taking care of deep rooted needs like education, health, women’s empowerment, so that the support is sustainable and repsectful of their values.

PRASAD has been helping me every year to hold a fundraiser for a specific campaign PRASAD is doing. This year we are helping farmers to build wells so that they can capture monsoon rain in order to endure the ever increasing droughts and heat waves. I live in near the Puget Sound in WA--we have such beautiful rivers, falls, lakes, and the sound. Our trees grow so big here due to the bounty of water. I am so grateful to give back and to help others to harness this cherished resource.

I am interested in food security because I see it as vital to something dear to all of us—world peace. PRASAD takes a respectful approach to listen to the needs of the people it serves. It also listens to its fundraisers. My friends suggested PRASAD emphasize self-reliance. PRASAD answered by starting a kitchen Garden project whereby villagers are given the means and guidance over a year to have an ongoing garden that ensures solid nutrition for a family in need.

My high school friends and I wanted to help feed starving children. We found PRASAD is great because they know the people they serve, they treat everyone with love and respect, the money goes right to the place we give it to. Finally, we are really glad they have an emphasis on self-reliance. All this together means they are a role model for a long-term, sustainable system to successfully nourish children the world over.

We held a fundraiser via zoom with most members of our extended family. We shared meaningful stories of our past. Inviting people to donate to PRASAD really opened everyone's hearts. There was so much love in the "room". Since then I have felt so grateful for a strong sense that everyone in my family is protected. My experience is that PRASAD protects the hearts of the donors and the lives of the recipients. I love PRASAD.
