Review for Saint Margaret of Castello Maternity Home, Bensalem, PA, USA
The absolute worse place i have ever stayed. I stayed here in 2016 and was kicked out for not attending a house meeting. I told the director I had a meeting for permanent housing that same day and would not be able to attend weeks in advanced. When I got back I had to pack my stuff because I was being suspended for a week. I was told I had to call in a week to see if I could come back. I was 7 months pregnant with no where to go. I had to call around for a ride, I asked if I could sit on the porch while I figured things out and was told I could not be on the property. I had to sit on the side of the road and there was no sidewalk in the scorching hot son while I tried to find someone to take me back to Philly. On top of that I had to sign this yellow form we signed daily stating I was there even though I was getting put out so they could collect money for me even when I was not there. I worked while I was there and had to walk over a mile to work again with no side walk, the staff did not transport you unless they felt like it. Living there you had to buy your own food and cleaning supplies and share with everyone else. There was an entire basement full of baby supplies and the director never gave us anything but she would give a ton of donations to outside people and then call us downstairs to show us off to outside people to brag about how much was being done for us. I felt this place was extremely racist and misleading, they treated the young black women who were there like garbage because they were at a disadvantage. I hope this place is under new management because the director and the staff were truly terrible people. I never felt so oppressed in my entire life.
I'm sorry you had a negative experience. I cannot comment on this specifically because I started here in 2018. I can say that the Home does not receive money for women to stay there and never has. We absolutely give residents baby items and assistance with food if they are not receiving SNAP benefits or don't have an income. Transportation can be provided if needed but we try to encourage the residents to be as independent as possible. We treat all residents with respect regardless of race. We have a diverse staff to provide services and take complaints very seriously. Please feel free to call me at 215-245-8039 to discuss further. Eileen- Executive Director
