Review for CEF of the Greater Pee, Conway, SC, USA
Our church, Little River United Methodist, started a Good News Club in the spring of 2006. We have been holding clubs there since that time and it has been a tremendous blessing to so many. We go into the school each Tuesday after school and have small group time for about 15 minutes where the children have a chance to pray, memorize a bible verse, share their cares and concerns with their Table Shepherd. After that they get together as a group to learn a bible verse, sing some songs with motions (How Great Thou Art is their all time favorite), hear a bible story and an opportunity to meet with a counselor and ask Jesus to come into their hearts. In 14 years there have been 195 children who have made that decision. We look forward to getting to heaven and seeing all those sweet faces there.
We have many stories to tell about how Good News Club has impacted these children and the adults who work with them. My favorite story is: We were ringing the bell at Walmart for the Salvation Army when a BIG GUY walked up to me and said “I remember you from Good News Club. It changed my life”. He was a senior and had been in club when he was in Elementary school. He had two friends with him and they both said “US TO!!!!” Well you can imagine how happy that made me feel.
Not only does Good News Club bring the gospel to the children. It gives many of them someone to talk to who cares about what is going on in their lives. Many of these children do not attend church and this is the only chance they have to hear God’s word. Each child is given a bible which they bring to club each week as they learn and we pray that they will keep it for many years to come.
I thank God for the opportunity to show Jesus to children who may otherwise never hear.
