Our church, Little River United Methodist, started a Good News Club in the spring of 2006. We have been holding clubs there since that time and it has been a tremendous blessing to so many. We go into the school each Tuesday after school and have small group time for about 15 minutes where the children have a chance to pray, memorize a bible verse, share their cares and concerns with their Table Shepherd. After that they get together as a group to learn a bible verse, sing some songs with motions (How Great Thou Art is their all time favorite), hear a bible story and an opportunity to meet with a counselor and ask Jesus to come into their hearts. In 14 years there have been 195 children who have made that decision. We look forward to getting to heaven and seeing all those sweet faces there.
We have many stories to tell about how Good News Club has impacted these children and the adults who work with them. My favorite story is: We were ringing the bell at Walmart for the Salvation Army when a BIG GUY walked up to me and said “I remember you from Good News Club. It changed my life”. He was a senior and had been in club when he was in Elementary school. He had two friends with him and they both said “US TO!!!!” Well you can imagine how happy that made me feel.
Not only does Good News Club bring the gospel to the children. It gives many of them someone to talk to who cares about what is going on in their lives. Many of these children do not attend church and this is the only chance they have to hear God’s word. Each child is given a bible which they bring to club each week as they learn and we pray that they will keep it for many years to come.
I thank God for the opportunity to show Jesus to children who may otherwise never hear.
CEF is such a wonderful organization. They reach so many children that normally do not have the opportunity to hear the word of God. All the staff and volunteers are so amazing, they have such a love for Gods word and desire to share His word . What a Blessing CEF is to Horry and Georgetown county’s.
It has been a pleasure working with CEF! They have gone above and beyond to make sure our Good News Club has everything it needs to succeed. In addition to that, they have been in touch with us during Covid-19 offering resources and more. I am amazed at all they do to foster spiritual growth and further the gospel in the lives of children. We need more organizations/ministries like CEF.
I have the privilege to be a trained volunteer for CEF and I've experienced the joy firsthand to work along with other volunteers to teach the Gospel to the children afterschool at our local elementary school here in Georgetown County. CEF focuses solely on the Good News of Jesus Christ and the spiritual well-being of our children. Every person affiliated with CEF that I've had the honor to work with has shown tremendous work ethic and high moral standards, along with love and compassion for the children and each other. I've been truly blessed and enriched through this affiliation with CEF...plus I love teaching children about Jesus!!
I have had the honor to be a volunteer for several years in my daughter's school prior to being employed by CEF. The true joy of teaching boys and girls who often, due to no cause of their own, do not feel the love of Christ. It's amazing that in times like these, we can share the "Good News" that they are loved and cherished. One of the happiest times in club was when we were able to connect a child who was saved and their whole family back to a church that could care for, love and disciple them.
