I had just lost my mother to cancer and was looking for ways to give back and came across Walk With Sally through friends. I felt lucky to have had my mother for 42 years - and then I thought about the kids going through what I had to go through as an adult, and realized I could help make an impact. I was matched with Kiarra in November of 2013... she lost her Dad to cancer when she was only 5 years old. She's now 15 years old and thriving. I wouldn't say the journey was easy. It took a long time for her to begin to trust that I would be there for her. But as we say at WWS - "Just Show Up". And I did... and I still do. She's becoming a beautiful, smart woman before my very eyes. I'm forever thankful to WWS for bringing her into my life!
