I'm a mother of an only child, Diego, and I unfortunately was strucked by cancer when my son was just 13 years old.
Our life fell apart due to my diagnosis. We learned of Walk With Sally through a support group where we met Lucia. My son agree to the experience and throughout the program and mentorship he was able to find some sort of normalcy. His life stopped because of me but through WWS he got to experience a day of baseball, his first NFL game, but most of all, he got to meet amazing people like Cora who made him feel very comfortable during the business opportunity event at FabFitFun, Where he learned the infinite opportunities that online business can offer, which is something that he's always been interested in.
My son got the love, understanding and support that he needed during the toughest moments of his short life. Through the mentorship and the hope he found through WWS programs and events, he improved his grades, builted self-confidence and I'm so happy to share that I will see him graduate from high school this coming June 12, 2020, which is a great accomplishment and an answered prayer that I asked God for during all those weeks and months that I was away from him during the cancer treatments at City of Hope.
WWS is an amazing organization that connects children affected by this horrible decease called cancer, with amazing human beings that donate their time and share their love to bring hope and maybe one normal day when cancer will not be the center of that child's life.
Whether you become a mentor, a donor or a sponsor, you need to know that you are helping bring joy to a child and his/her family and will forever be remembered.
From the bottom of my heart, I Thank you for being there for my Diego when I couldn't be.
I had just lost my mother to cancer and was looking for ways to give back and came across Walk With Sally through friends. I felt lucky to have had my mother for 42 years - and then I thought about the kids going through what I had to go through as an adult, and realized I could help make an impact. I was matched with Kiarra in November of 2013... she lost her Dad to cancer when she was only 5 years old. She's now 15 years old and thriving. I wouldn't say the journey was easy. It took a long time for her to begin to trust that I would be there for her. But as we say at WWS - "Just Show Up". And I did... and I still do. She's becoming a beautiful, smart woman before my very eyes. I'm forever thankful to WWS for bringing her into my life!
