Review for A Mother's Rest Charitable Respite Foundation, New Market, MD, USA
My husband and I adopted 5 children with varying special needs as well as having 4 biological children of our own. There have been many years of great struggles. Being tired physically is not nearly as hard as the emotional fatigue. I was blessed to be able to attend the respite retreat at the Mayhurst Inn located in Orange, va. The Inn was absolutely beautiful. The history this inn holds is incredible. The Inn is in the process of changing owners and we were blessed to have both the previous owners and the new ones with us during this time. The retreat was absolutely as advertised. Absolutely no commitment and time to do exactly what “you” want. I will say I did decide to go home an entire day early. The night I arrived and the next day were fabulous as I got to interact with fellow moms who are also in the trenches of special needs. The next day each lady decided to spend the day to themselves and that’s great as that is what the trip says it can be but I am a very social person and truly time alone is not helpful for my mind and soul. I love to get away to be with others but left to sit alone is hard for me, so faced with a a day completely alone I chose to go home to my husband and family. I recommend these retreats as it truly is a time to get away. If you are like me and very social and crave interaction just understand this may not be what happens. I guess it just depends on who comes and what they are looking to get out of it. This is a wonderful ministry and I am blessed to have been able to go and meet new people even if it was just for a little bit of time.
