I got in touch with my friend’s uncle who is Haitian talking about a foundation who’s mission was to educate the children in a small village. From asking questions and talking with my mom, I had found out that it was in the same small town she grew up in. I wanted to get involved immediately. I flew out to Haiti months later and volunteered for a week. The children were so happy and joyful. They loved coming to learn and eat! They always cracked jokes on me because to them, I had an accent whenever I spoke Creole. Keep it up Lasserre!
