The AWLMC is truly an outstanding Cat Shelter. The Volunteers there assist you in selecting the perfect cat but then sometimes the Cat selects you as did our Nala. The shelter is very clean and for any one who has had a cat and forgot to clean the litter box you know the affect - well that is not the AWLMC Shelter. The variety of Cats is excellent and if you do not see what you desire they will let you know if Your desire comes into the shelter. If your looking for a Cat, the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County is the best!

AWLMC is an outstanding Not for Profit NO KILL Cat Shelter located in Gaithersburg MD. We adopted our family member from AWLMC who has been a joy to our house. The Shelter has an all volunteer staff who are truly dedicated to the well being and health of each cat in their care. The five cat rooms each have multiple cat trees facing windows for the cats to see outside activities (Birds Squirrels, etc..) and toys all over the place. They have special teams that care for the cats; i.e., feeding, playing, and looking out for their health needs if any. The Adoption Team walked us through the process and provided excellent information on all the cats before we made our selection. I was so impressed with the Shelter I am now a volunteer. In our house we had two cats, one a Tuxedo cat who is 17 and a Calco who is 6. My wife recently fell in love with Nala a 6 year old Calco who had severe medical problems and spent a great deal of time being treated before being placed for adoption. When we received her two months ago she was in excellent condition and at her vet visit this week she received a very good report with no medical conditions noted. She is a joy to have and has almost settle in with our other two cats, they are a work in progress. WE cannot thank the AWLMC enough for going the extra mile in providing her medial care at considerable cost to AWLMC when other shelters may have not done so with a result less than acceptable for Nala.

If you are looking for a Cat or Kitten to enter your life - the AWL is the place to start your search. The AWL House is a two story home where the Cats reside in separate rooms, depending upon the number of Cats there may be one or two per room. You will see a large cage in the room as this is where a new Cat spends a few days acclimatizing to their new room. In a few days they are introduced to their Room Mate as they are released and free to roam the entire room. Each room has multiple windows , toys and Cat Trees. The AWl Healthcare Team ensures each Cat is up to-date on immunizations and in excellent health. The AWL Staff cares for each Cat as an individual and various AWL Staff Teams visit with each Cat on a daily basis, feeding, grooming and playing - including weekends in efforts to achieve totally socialization for You. You are free to enter the rooms and interact with the resident Cat(s). The AWL welcomes each visitor and will provide you with a total history of each resident Cat.
