Review for Assistance League® of the Eastside, Redmond, WA, USA
Assistance League of the Eastside has a program called Operation School Bell and it is HIGHLY organized, runs smoothly, and has great personal relations with those who use it. Most importantly, it provides resources to hundreds of kids on the Eastside who have financial hardship and can't afford new school clothes. Operation School Bell provides $150 for shopping at Fred Meyer for new school clothes so students can feel confident to attend school. I have a family whose had a tremendous hardship and trauma, they were forced into homelessness and one child only had one shirt and one pair of shorts to wear, every day. He was embarrassed to attend school, always wearing the same outfit. With the help of Operation School Bell, he was provided a means to shop and pick out clothing he liked to feel good about wearing to school. I found some clothing at my home and I offered it to this boy. He turned it down because it wasn't "his style" (and it wasn't) and some of the clothing did not fit. But with Operation School Bell, he was able to get clothing in his style and size that he wanted to wear to school. The program is managed well and makes it easy for school counselors to use the service to help provide a school shopping experience for kids. They support so many families at our school, which really helps our school culture and gives kids the confidence they need to attend school, feeling good about themselves.
