Review for Strong Prison Wives and Families, Inc., Las Vegas, NV, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I started out as a member and worked the courage to become a volunteer. My husband is serving his time in the FBOP. His judge was harsh and gave the maximum more than even requested by government. We are 1year and 319 days in with 6years and 328 days left.

When I first joined, I watched the videos read the posts think oh no not me that we my be me I will never be "okay" with not writing everyday or at least everyweek....I will never be able to go with out speaking to him. They all assured us newbies it would happen and it has. Why because with working and trying to maintain the secret life of prison wife that takes a toll on us.

Having this group has let me know every feeling I have the good and the bad are NORMAL and all part of a process we go through especially those in for longer bids.

It gave me a outline of what to expect during each stage of my husband's process. And it is a learning curve no two cases are the same, no two facilities are the same. But with the support of SPWF I feel empowered like I can make it through this. That if all these others are here doing it making it work many with even longer bids than myself then I need to pick myself up dust myself off and push through.

And with this lesson SPWF ALWAYS chooses us the families. Not a well they are in prison they get a pass on their attitude no ma'am/ sir if your LO is not treating you right regardless of the type of relationship we are going to tell you we are going to say hey you deserve better than he/she is giving you and you need to make sure you let them know this. We build each other up give each other the support we long for and miss from our LOs. We make sure to remind each other self care is important to our ability to make it through this without resentment towards our LOs.

I am so sad I am not able to attend the conference to meet these other volunteers in person but I am so looking forward to the relationships I continue to build thanks to this organization and I hope help play my part in breaking the stigma on not just our loved ones but the stigmas put on us the families as well.
