I found SPWF after a long 8 months of depression and loneliness after my husband was incarcerated. In October, my husband suffered an emergency medical situation that needed immediate attention and help from higher resources to correct the extreme medical neglect in our prison system. Without this group and the immediate answers, Knowledge and overall empathy from the amazing people involved, my husband may have not been able to make it through his medical crisis and be able to be transferred to a facility that was able to properly care for him. I will forever be thankful for each and every one of you that helped, messaged and prayed for our family. This group is truly amazing.

Finding this nonprofit was so important to me not feeling so alone going through life with my husband being incarcerated. I finally found others who understood exactly what I was going through which helped a lot in my day to day life.

Shortly after finding the nonprofit, I also started volunteering because I wanted to help others and make sure that the loved ones of the incarcerated people don't go through that same "feeling alone". Having a loved one incarcerated is already a lot to deal with and having that support system can make all the difference in the world.

This amazing non profit has helped me cope with loving someone while they are inside. They have offered a tremendous amount of support as a member, and I couldn’t have made it this far without them. As a volunteer, I have been given the opportunity to advocate and share my story to those. I’ve also been given the opportunity to mentor and support others going through the same process that I did...learning to cope with the loss of your loved one due to incarceration. The love, support and education I have received from this non profit has been priceless!

SPWF brings me a sense of joy and community. It reminds me of the way children play together at a park or public area. They don't need to know all of each other's details to be kind to one another. They look across a field or a slide and agree to journey together. "Do you want to play? Yes!" They do. They live in a moment together and become instant friends. Kids are amazing! They hold a sense of wonder and empathy that transcends details.

That's how I feel within this community. SPWF doesn't care what your LO's charges are or whether you met pre or post incarceration. Someone is going to reach out their hand to you and see if you want to play tag, build a fort, or spin in circles until everyone is disoriented and falls down. SPWF will make sure that we all have a safe place to land. Someone will always help stop the bleeding when you scrape your knee, share a laugh when you tell an excellent joke, offer a hug when you cry, remind you to use your words when you're angry, and kindly let you know when you have a booger sticking out of your nose.

SPWF never makes anyone sit alone in the lunchroom. Even if you're a bit discombobulated, wounded, or delightfully odd, SPWF will welcome you. SPWF will pull out a chair and build a longer table for anyone that needs a reminder that they belong. SPWF is a labor of love and illustrates that another world is in fact possible.

An amazing organization. Before I found SPWF I felt so lonely. I had no one to relate to, no one to talk to. It sometimes felt like I was lost and alone but SPWF has been like a lifeline to me. I have been able to connect with real people that are in a similar situation. Fighting against the stigma, educating, supporting each other, laughing, crying, empowering, encouraging, such a great community. I could never fully express the impact SPWF has had on my life.

This site is amazing. Before finding SPWF I felt like I was the only one suffering out there. Family and friends had no clue what i was going through. I had so much pain and emotions taking over me.

At SPWF i was able to start a discussion and there are real people giving out advise as well as sharing what they were and are going through. No one was negative toward another member, they understood your pain, your sleepless nights as well as your daily struggles.

Our Loved Ones are incarcerated for different reasons but we can still connect with and help out each other.

This site has made me a stronger person instead of a weaker person for what i am going through.

They share appropriate very useful links to aid in your healing process.

I love the YouTube videos and links so much that i can spend hours watching them. They really are a self help tool.

I am very grateful for Admin Ro for starting this site and for all the hard work she does to make our lives much better. I'm thankful for the other Admins as well overseeing what goes on here.

Love Strong, Stay Strong!

Strong Prison wives and Families as been a amazing strength to me as a wife. It’s become my safe place when it feels like the entire world is judging you for being a prison wife. It’s been my privilege to be a volunteer to help other wives and family members find their strengths just as I have.

I started out as a member and worked the courage to become a volunteer. My husband is serving his time in the FBOP. His judge was harsh and gave the maximum more than even requested by government. We are 1year and 319 days in with 6years and 328 days left.

When I first joined, I watched the videos read the posts think oh no not me that we my be me I will never be "okay" with not writing everyday or at least everyweek....I will never be able to go with out speaking to him. They all assured us newbies it would happen and it has. Why because with working and trying to maintain the secret life of prison wife that takes a toll on us.

Having this group has let me know every feeling I have the good and the bad are NORMAL and all part of a process we go through especially those in for longer bids.

It gave me a outline of what to expect during each stage of my husband's process. And it is a learning curve no two cases are the same, no two facilities are the same. But with the support of SPWF I feel empowered like I can make it through this. That if all these others are here doing it making it work many with even longer bids than myself then I need to pick myself up dust myself off and push through.

And with this lesson SPWF ALWAYS chooses us the families. Not a well they are in prison they get a pass on their attitude no ma'am/ sir if your LO is not treating you right regardless of the type of relationship we are going to tell you we are going to say hey you deserve better than he/she is giving you and you need to make sure you let them know this. We build each other up give each other the support we long for and miss from our LOs. We make sure to remind each other self care is important to our ability to make it through this without resentment towards our LOs.

I am so sad I am not able to attend the conference to meet these other volunteers in person but I am so looking forward to the relationships I continue to build thanks to this organization and I hope help play my part in breaking the stigma on not just our loved ones but the stigmas put on us the families as well.

This organization has helped me so much it empowered me to find my voice, establish goals for myself, and improve my self-confidence all while dealing with a loved one inside prison and the stigma that goes with it.

I'm not able to get online much. But reading some of the profiles of some of the members are amazing. I really don't see how some of them have gotten through there significant others incarceration time. My bf is in his 2nd facility to finish his time out. And the way it looks when he is done with this sentence. He will be going to 3rd facility to finish another sentence out. Thanks for being here. Love to you all.

Strong Prison Wife Organization has helped and is still helping my family to keep going with our daily battle. Till this day we have not lost hope and faith for Daddy's homecoming. My husband is currently incarcerated. He will be completing 3 years on October 2017 in a Texas Federal Prison Camp but with Gods willing we are down to 5 months left to this nightmare journey. SPWF not only is a great organization but it helps you understand and communicate with other people dealing with similar issues. We are glad this group exist because when you have someone behind bars no matter the education, the amount of money or career path you have had, no matter the circumstances, as a human being you WILL get looked down on for supporting or loving a "criminal." I AM A PROUD PRISON WIFE. My son and I love Daddy very much and people deserve second chances. SPWF has been our backbone down this entire journey.

This group is a lifeline to so many women (and men) who have loved ones in prison. We are involved in an entirely different world and set of circumstances that most people will never have to experience. Without Ro and the rest of the amazing people involved with this venture so many of us would be lost and not know where to turn for support and understanding. We are the "blacksheep of the family" in this world of judgement and criticism, I fear that without this group for support many women would simply give up hope. This group helps us to continue to be the Strong Women that we are by joining forces, sharing stories and simply loving each other.

This is not only my story but the story of thousands of women across America. Women like myself who have children and histories of love and care for an incarcerated person.
Our story is real, difficult to express to others whose experience isn't like ours, Steong Prison Wives fills a deep void, we find nurture, understanding and wellness in our FB community. I am so happy to have support, it's a neccissity.

I found SPWF at probably my lowest point ever in my life. I was scared. I was all-alone in the world and didn't know what to do or where to go. My friends and family couldn’t relate. My life had been turned upside down by my husband’s arrest. The community and support provided by SPWF allowed me to get through the first struggles, where of course I had a thousand questions as I was learning about court and lawyers. However, what happened next was amazing, the community overtook all my problems; the people really truly cared about me and began to help me with my own internal issues, and myself not just the fact that my husband was in jail. I joined their groups, where I learnt about self-care, motivation, health and fitness and oh so much more. This not for profit has gone above and beyond in helping me become the confident woman I am today, and they still help me every day to grow into a more productive resilient woman. Thank you.

On April 27,2016 I wrote a review on SPWF,Ro you got it all wrong i did not and have not ever written anything on your facebook page as i dont even have a facebook page of my own.I actually believe it was Jo ugly ass who deleted me,we were on the post together.Matter of fact i believe the member i was stating my opinion to was called Skelly i believe i wasnt being offensive and she and i was discussing an issue her husband was having,Jo got in on the discussion.I guess because i wasnt stroking the lady but telling the truth somebody didnt like that.I remember the exact top,the nice lady was saying they were giving her husband a hard way because she works at a jail so he knows the rules on a certain topic and i told her he is in the majority not the minority bcause almost all prisoners know that handbook. That was a problem?Jo could have approached me like a woman before deleting my page.I stand on what i said if u are not stroking but voice your opinion(because i would never be fake)u become the villian.I always kept it real thats why even though i got kicked off the page half these women are still on my phone and if i came back would be jumping for joy, like last time, numerous women came to my page and all said the same thing "glad your back so we can have some realness on the page"So you got me pegged wrong i never had a facebook page,no need for one.Now i can leave this alone or we can continue to talk about it,i would suggest in your next meeting you tell your henchmen if they have a issue with ones opinion to approach them woman to woman you never know what people could be going through but to flat out delete the page,of your so called"sister"Jo was out of order. So again this was on SPWF.I will never try to come back or anything im good,i would just tell a new member proceed with caution but be real.Take care and i wish all the prisonwives and girlfriends the very best, this is a ugly lifestyle but its doable, you have to learn to cope with the ugly side of it,blessings.-Trophywife1205 or Histrophy1205 or The Notorious Trophywife1205.(all my screen names i been on there a few times.

Thank you again for sharing your opinion; we appreciate any feedback we can use to provide SPWF users with a better experience. While we encourage members to speak in a authentic voice, SPWF does not tolerate attacks against other members under the guise of "not being fake." We do not tolerate hateful words toward other members, or groups of our members. With that said, I'm happy to read you've made friends through SPWF and continue to offer support to each other. As a non profit organization, this type of support is part of our mission. Happy it worked out for you. :)

We're very sorry you feel that way about Strong Prison Wives & Families. I recall the exact issue in which you're referring to, which to clarify, took place on our Facebook wall, not on our website. While we at SPWF believe that everyone has a unique voice and we welcome different opinions, we absolutely do not tolerate discussion of illegal topics, including what you "got away with" inside a prison visiting room. We're sorry that you felt as if you were being treated as a "villain" when our volunteers kindly suggested that you practice self respect and begin living above the stigma we're attempting to break. Hopefully after some soul-searching you'll give StrongPrisonWives.com another chance. Best wishes, Ro

This nonprofit is helping me by providing support during one of the most difficult times in my life. The best part about this group is that they allow candid sharing of emotions, support and resources, and camaraderie to a demographic that is often overlooked. Many in this demographic (wives and families of those who are incarcerated) are often stereotyped and judged because of a loved one that has made mistakes in their life, and is now paying severe consequences. With this group, the participants are able to feel loved, safe from judgment, and know that they are not alone. They provide forums with many detailed questions, monthly chat sessions where members can talk with and provide support for each other, and a Facebook-like status update for members to post current statuses of their lives, as well as the ability to upload blog postings. When I found this nonprofit, I finally felt as though there was a group that understood what I was going through, even when I didn't understand it. As a new member, I didn't know where to start, but many of the older members helped me and guided me through the process. Their support has helped me keep my head up, come to terms with the future, and reassures me that I'm not alone. I found a place where I could be myself, and not be judged because of the people that are in my life. The group is a diverse, vibrant, cohesive bunch of women, who want nothing more than to help others that are going through a similar situation.

My fiance is in prison. My friends and immediate family try to be supportive but it not the same as someone knowing what it's really like. I googled support group for prison families and found this site. I have made some great friends from all over the country that know exactly what I'm feeling. This site is what has kept me going. I don't know how I would make it thru his incarceration without it!

After finding out that my partner was to be serving life they were an immeasurable help for me just to find out how to make it through the days and what I could be doing to help him. They give all kinds of advice on just about every subject you could think of pertaining to the prison systems and try their best into leading you in the right direction to get you where you need to be going. They have truly helped me and I appreciated all the information I get from them. Some of it is helpful and some not but all is appreciated.

After my husband got brought up on old charges just 2 months before we were to be married we tried to go on as best as we could- as normally as we could. We got married and continued raising our two children until he was sentenced to 3 years in the Arizona State Prison. I was lost when he went in to custody but I reached out and came across Strong Prison Wives and met some really helpful women who talked me through a lot when I had no one else who understood what I was going through and for that I am eternally grateful for.

When I first came into this group I was so sad and depressed. I didn't know anything about how the prison system worked or how to do an appeal but all of the admins and group members were so nice and helpful. It's an amazing feeling knowing that I'm not alone through this devastating time in my family's life!!! I don't know what I would do without this page and the amazing people I share it with!

I'm so thankful for the day I stumbled upon SPWF because it's helped me in more ways than one. The amazing people on this site allow you to be yourself 110% without judgement, give you soild advice when you need it most, and everyone is there for one another. These women on this site has lifted me up when I fell down as I do the same for others. We've all shared happy and joyful moments but also sad and depressing. This life style isn't the easiest but when you have people behind you that understand everything you're going through, helps you get right back up! :) Hands down Ro, she's definitely knocked the ball out of the ball park. She's a HUGE inspiration!! Afrer so many years, I'm truly happy to call her one of my friends. Thank you for everything! Stay strong!! Xoxo

SPWF is by far one of the greatest organizations I have been apart of. These ladies have helped me through some of the darkest times on this journey. With little people in my family and friends circle that don't understand what I go through on a daily basis, these ladies do!! They are always there to lead a helping hand and words of encouragement and sometimes the little words are all you need. They are also interested in helping others conduct research on how to support women in their community with supportive resources.

SPWF has become a part of me. I have found a community that I belong too no matter what is going on. The resources provided by the volunteers, the utter support that was freely given to me, and the self-esteem that I have been able to grow and develop as a member of this community is absolutely amazing. Where I feel supported with every aspect of my life. SPWF has helped me as an individual, but also helped with my relationship with both my husband and my daughter. I belong to the group, Keeping the Love in Long Distance Relationships and this has truly helped my communication level with my spouse, has allowed me a supportive community to work out our problems with and has provided me the tools for life that I require to move forward. This journey is not an easy one, but as part of this organization I feel I can conquer anything life puts in from of me. SPWF is absolutely wonderful. Thank you.

I love this site. Not to many people understand what it's like to be in love with a man doing time. I struggled with feeling alone because no one I understand my situation and judged me but that all changed when I joined this site. I connect with woman on a regular basis who understand what I'm going through and some who have been where I am. This site gives me a chance to open up and talk about one of the best times of my life " being in love" without the who, what, where, how and why of it all. It's just a bunch of woman kind of like a sisterhood supporting and encouraging each other with no judgement. It's the one place where I feel safe talking about my relationship the good, bad and the ugly and I can do it with confidence.

When I first found out that my friend was arrested my world was flipped upside down.
I knew immediately I wanted I support him in any way I could. After a few months of writing back and forth our feelings for one another could no longer be contained. I decided at that time I would stand by his side as his girlfriend. I still had hope that he would get a sentence that would allow him to come home to me. At the same time I slowly very slowly began to accept that he could get a sentence of life without parole. I felt alone and sad and slowly my hope diminished.
One day I decided to do some research. The Internet can be an amazing thing, you can find almost anything. I thought to myself I cannot be the only person going through this there has to be others. I stumbled across a site called strongprisonwives so I clicked on the link to learn more.
The story I read of one of the founders and her loved one blew me away. After that I knew that if this beautiful young woman could do what she was doing then I could too. I reached out and emailed her and I quickly got a responses that was filled with love, support, encouragement and most of all understanding. The site was still fairly new, I spent my time blogging and reading about others in my situation offering encouraging words where I could.
Later on the website was revamped and I was asked to be a volunteer which I gladly accepted and I now help with the website and the Lifer Beauty group.
In the 3 years I've been a part of this it's grown tenfold into a wonderful amazing community full of wonderful members and volunteers.
Without it I'm sure I would be a puddle of tears daily, instead I'm full of hope and strength despite our sentence of life without parole. I'm able to encourage and uplift my love in times of darkness.
