Bad experience with this rescue. While I believe they are good to the animals in their care, the organization's leader is difficult to work with. We were led to believe for several weeks that our family was a strong candidate for the placement of one of a litter of Great Dane puppies. We have owned giant-breed dogs before we ever had children, all our boys have been raised with them from infancy, we are homeowners and rarely are our dogs left alone given our work schedules. We travel with our dogs and when we can't, we have a live-in petsitter. However, we were turned down because of a lack of a fenced yard . We have raised happy, active dogs since 2005, without a fenced yard. I respect any rescue's rules; however, we were not told about this initially, and the point person did not contact us about the rejection until I had sent multiple emails reiterating our interest. This was especially painful because we had lost our Newfie over the summer, and, as we were eager to give a large-breed dog in need a home; the communication lag really had everyone in our home on edge (and kept us from exploring other options for dogs in need of a home). In addition, the individual who runs the organization was dismissive and defensive during our phone interview (for example, when I mentioned that our neighbors had had a bad experience with an electric dog fence, she replied: "Well I have one, and if you use it right, there aren't problems!" and "I work all the time - you wouldn't understand!, despite the fact that this person knows virtually nothing about me other than what I'd provided about our history of dog ownership - I am the sole financial provider for our family of five (the fact that my spouse is home allows us to provide a companionable and attentive home for dogs). We now have adopted a gorgeous ten-month-old Akita and he's doing great, thanks to the wonderful partnership with Protectors of Animals (CT) - they are amazing.

Wonderful experience with this group - incredibly devoted, caring, compassionate group of people who really care about the individual animals they look after. Hard work, but this group does an amazing job. Our case worker, Mindy, was compassionate, thorough, caring, and really helpful. She took her time (and let us take ours) in the meet-and-greet and preparation process. We never felt pressured to make a decision - it's clear that POA want their animals going to a committed, right-fit home. Highly recommend.
