Wonderful experience with this group - incredibly devoted, caring, compassionate group of people who really care about the individual animals they look after. Hard work, but this group does an amazing job. Our case worker, Mindy, was compassionate, thorough, caring, and really helpful. She took her time (and let us take ours) in the meet-and-greet and preparation process. We never felt pressured to make a decision - it's clear that POA want their animals going to a committed, right-fit home. Highly recommend.
POA is an extraordinary organization! Run almost entirely by volunteers, it rescues both dogs and cats and has three shelter locations. Volunteer teams include Intake, Foster, Socialization, Clean & Feed, Admin., Medical, Placement, etc. Many volunteers work on several teams. This no-kill shelter provides animals with compassionate care at all times and has an outstanding reputation in the community. Volunteers also plan and run fundraisers year round to make sure animals receive a full spectrum of care including surgeries and dental procedures. My personal experience includes adopting wonderful cats from POA, fostering, fundraising and socializing. It has all been very positive.
Worst most judgemental “volunteers”
They decided we didn’t look right, or behave right, despite excellent references from vet & 2 close friends I catsit with.
Worst experience ever. Not only did they say the sweet cat we were interested in would not be “a good fit” as our only cat. The volunteer fostering same cat treats her differently than her other 2 permanently adopted cats. But she thinks THAT is a better situation than this sweet cat rescued from hoarding being our only pet.
Client NOT served. Only “judged” on site.
(I am a retired social worker. But not good enough for POA) Client NOT SERVED!!!!
I been doing rescue from my pocket certified for over 20 years $$$$$....Whenever anyone call to this place get a answering machine, followed by a block id phone call during night time...Hours of your valuable time to chit chat and she will name other rescue names you should be calling, not them...like we dont know how to google, and guess what??? We found your rescue name between those for a reason ;) If you insist that you call others already too, The answer will always be a fake waiting list...ALSO THEY SELL YOU VOUCHERS FOR 90-100$ ....VOUCHERS THEY RECEIVE FOR FREE FROM THE STATE GRANTS.... FOR NONPROFITS TO FIX THE ANIMALS AT NO COST.....DO NOT COST THE PLACE A CENT...MAKING BUSINESS WITH THOSE VOUCHERS, SELLING THEM, IT IS NOT LEGAL....YOU GUYS WERE TRUSTED BY THE GOVERMENT FROM OUR TAXES $$$ TO HELP THEM, NOT TO MAKE BUSINE$$$$ ....MONEY FROM ALL.....
These people are the best. Judy in particular helped me several times with feral cats in my neighborhood. One mama kitty that kept having litters, her kittens kept dying. I was feeding her over a 2 year oeriod, but couldn't get close to her. She had another litter and we wanted to help her with them so they would survive. Judy put in great time and effort with her own trap, because the cat was too smart for the have a heart trap, and trapped mama and all 5 kittens, got them all spayed/neutered and their shots, and I adopted them all. After feeding and loving Mama who I named Rosalita, for 10 years, she one day went off, to die I assume, we never saw her again. I loved her and fed her and sheltered her for 10 years, but never once did she let me pet her. She must have been very traumatized by some human at some point in her short life. One of her babies died, Felix, he was a sweetheart and we still miss him, and we have the other 4, who are not as feral as they once were, Cougar sits on my lap and let's me pet and cuddle him, sometimes even sleeping with me, and Vixen and Little Bear let me pet them occasionally. Stripe looks just like her mama, and she will let me pick her up and cuddle her. These babies wouldn't have had a chance except for me feeding them, if not for the selfless actions of Judy from Protectors of Animals. I can not say enough good things about her and this organization!
