Review for Womens Global Education Project, Oak Park, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This organization has now reached its 20th anniversary, and continues to accomplish much for women and girls. Last year I visited one of its sites in Kenya and was overwhelmed by the warmth of the greetings of the the beneficiaries and the local staff. The latter is key to success of a grassroots organization. This year has seen the dedication of a library and computer center, the only one in that rural region of Kenya. I am proud to have been chosen a board member of the organization.

Review for Plan International USA, Inc., Providence , RI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have had a sponsored child with this organization for some 50 years! There is no doubt that it does good work and keeps in touch with sponsors. I particularly like its emphasis on the education and welfare of girls and women, the neediest in much of the world and the individuals with the greatest potential for creating a better world.

Review for Plan International USA, Inc., Providence , RI, USA

Rating: 4 stars

My wife and I have been donors since 1974 and have sponsored 6 children. Last fall I visited 3 schools where Plan is doing its work in Ethiopia and was very impressed with the dedication of the local staff and the work they are doing. In particular I like the emphasis on promoting girls' education.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it easier to find out more specific details about where the sponsored child is located: school, name of village. Make it easier to sponsor specific projects. Make it possible to be in contact with local staff in direct contact with the child and school.

Review for Womens Global Education Project, Oak Park, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

A key element in overcoming poverty in Africa is the promotion of the education of girls and young women. Schools in Africa generally require the payment of tuition, so families living in poverty either cannot afford to pay tuition or favor the boys in the family over the girls. For nearly 5 years now, Women's Global Education Project has been working to change that by providing scholarships for girls. In addition to helping individual girls to get an education, it has had a significant impact in changing attitudes toward the education of girls and also on the treatment of females in other areas of social life.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the growth in the number of scholarships awarded to girls and in how well they have done in school.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the satisfaction of helping to overcome the discrimination against females in Africa.

Review for Center for Biological Diversity Inc, Tucson, AZ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I only recently began to receive the Center of Biological Diversity Weekly E-Mail Newsletter. It is a great source for keeping up on what various governmental institutions and private organizations are doing and how their activities affect the environment. Information is empowering. We have to know what the threats are and what the possible solutions are in order to act effectively.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

promoting the protection of the biosphere.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

learning more about the biosphere.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

lobby Congress more effectively.

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to read further on topics raised in the organization's newsletter.
