It's hard to explain the difference that Foster Village has made in my life and in the lives of the children and families I work with. I am a single mom to infants and toddlers in foster care, and every child I have cared for has had individual needs, as all kids do. Foster Village has provided material support for every one of my children - everything from diapers to toys to winter clothes to an Owlet monitor for a newborn with respiratory issues. They are a godsend. More than the stuff, Foster Village and Chrystal Smith have been there for me through thick and thin, providing support, connecting me to other foster parents, and listening when things are crazy. Fostering is the hardest thing I have ever done, and I am so grateful that Foster Village is in this with me. Most of all, I think Foster Village uniquely understands and supports the WHOLE family - the foster family, relatives, and biological family, and understands the tensions and complexities of doing that. It is not "us vs. them" to Foster Village. These children and families are connected to us, and we are connected to them. The best outcomes for everyone happen when we realize there is no enemy, and the healing power of love. Foster Village exemplifies that.
