I had the amazing opportunity to attend 2 respite weekends within a couple of months. Not only was it my first time ever going away without my son but also my very first time not sleeping in the same house as him. And I knew he was in good care with his dad. While it was hard to leave him, especially the first time given his high level of anxiety, I must say it was an incredible experience! This heavenly feeling of just not have to worry about anything - except meals which was no big deal - not have anyone constantly demanding attention, constantly rely on me. I could relax and rest as much as I wanted to while also being able to socialize with amazing caregivers who could truly relate. No pressure of any kind. AMAZING and SO worth it.
