A Sanctuary of Second Chances: The Farmhouse Difference

They arrive scared, abandoned, or forgotten—many of them sick, neglected, or simply tossed aside. But when they step onto the land at Farmhouse Animal and Nature Sanctuary, something begins to change. They are no longer just strays or burdens. They are seen. They are safe. They are home.

I have had the honor of serving on the board of this remarkable nonprofit, and I have witnessed firsthand the miracles that happen here. From elderly dogs who find joy again in gentle sunlight… to rescued goats learning to trust humans for the first time… to turtles, tortoises, and birds given long-term loving care—each life matters deeply at the Farmhouse.

But it is not only the animals who are rescued. People are changed too.

Volunteers often say, “There is something different about this place.” And it is true. The moment you step foot on the sanctuary, you feel peace. Purpose. Restoration. You realize that healing flows both ways—rescued animals offering unconditional love, and humans rediscovering empathy, hope, and compassion.

This sanctuary is built on faith, stewardship, and tireless dedication. It runs on pure love—and on generous hearts who believe that every life, no matter how small or broken, is worth saving.

There is a growing issue of local shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries being at or near capacity. Lisa, Dave, and all of the amazing volunteers at Farmhouse Animal and Nature Sanctuary (FANS) work daily not only to provide loving care to animals but also to be an integral part of the local community. FANS is collecting pet items to benefit deserving residents of Myakka City, Duette, Parrish, and Wauchula in Florida in an effort to prevent families from surrendering pets to local shelters and rescues or looking to re-home their animals, during times of financial strain. FANS is helping families keep their pets by providing supplemental pet food and supplies for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more.

The Farmhouse Animal and Nature Sanctuary is a place where people of all ages can go to observe native (pigs, goats, bunnies) and exotic (kangaroo, wallaby, tortoise) animals as well as native plants. Visitors learn to appreciate the beauty of nature in Florida. Farmhouse Animal and Nature Sanctuary is an animal rescue that is made to be flexible and adapt to our community’s needs. We know fostering is important role. It helps to play a vital part in the rehabilitation of animals and helps improve their chance of finding a new home . Long term and forever homing of our animals is also an amazing way for these animas to lie out their years in a caring, safe environment.
