Review for HEAVEN AND EARTH ANIMAL RESCUE TEAM INC, Youngsville, NC, USA

Rating: 1 stars

This rescue tries to pass itself off as "all volunteer" but of the $29,853 they took in last year almost 66% (yes, that's not a typo, sixty-six percent - $18,311 to be exact) was used for "professional fees and outside contractors". They are paying themselves a salary but not calling it a salary because they classify a few key members as contractors. This group is alway very unethical and their finances should be scrutinized very carefully based on past issues.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Interacted with them, knowledge of them from other rescue groups and adopters.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Wipe out the board of directors and start all over again. I'm sure they don't have an ethics code because some of the board of directors are the most unethical people.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

there is nothing to enjoy with this group of people. the animals are nice though.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Most of the volunteers are nice. the "volunteers" that get paid contractor fees are board of director members and are dishonest.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

They would try to figure out how to buy themselves allkinds of stuff and write it off as for the animals.

Ways to make it better...

They weren't so deceitful.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lack of ethics. Financial mismanagement

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  General Member of the Public & interacted with them, researched them.

As a board member of this organization, I can only say I am disappointed and saddened that this person has had such an unfortunate encounter with us and that they have been provided inaccurate information. While I do not know this person or the exact nature of her experience, I can say that the information provided in this review is largely unfounded.

None of our board members are paid. None of our board members are paid as contractors. Our professional fees are actually paid to vets. We pay vets for spays, neuters, vaccinations, dentals, heartworm treatments, amputations, ultrasounds, radio-graphs, acupuncture, removal of growths, testing of growths, eye removals, etc. We also have substantial costs for medications associated with infections, pain, allergies- plus monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Our expenses actually go to animals in our program that have had serious misfortunes in their lives and were in desperate need of medical care!

What is TRUE in this review is that our volunteers everyone associated with this organization) are spectacular! Our board members, foster families, event volunteers, weekend fosters, vacation fosters, walking volunteers, intake coordinators, trainers, medical care coordinators, and transporters are all very special people who dedicate a tremendous amount of their time to an outstanding organization!

Also true is that we have some great dogs and cats in our program! They all have something special to offer and all are looking for caring lifelong homes!

In addition to our fantastic volunteers and great pets, we have incredible friends who help us through donations to continue the valuable work we do for the animals in our community! Without our volunteers, donors, and adopters, we could not do the work we do that is so desperately needed! Let's also remember the vets, groomers, and trainers who help us help the animals in our program through discounted services!
