Review for Institute of Flight (formerly Future of Flight Foundation), Mukilteo, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Future of Flight is a wonderful public-private collaboration which is maturing quickly. The $25M facility is only four years old, but it has already welcomed over 750,000 paid visitors plus several hundred thousand other guests. One of the most notable achievements is the education program, which is in its second year of stimulating students and lighting a spark of innovation in their young minds. Another success has been in development of exhibits. The Foundation has received over $20M in exhibits, cash and in-kind gifts which complement the Boeing Tour.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Motivating the staff and volunteers to go the extra mile to provide high quality experiences and programs which stimulate the public.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Continue to expand the circle of partners and supporters in aerospace and education.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The energy and customer focus demonstrated by the staff and volunteers, especially in education programs.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Enthusiastic and dedicated.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Rejuvenate the exhibits and hire a full-time education team which would enrich students with science and technology programs.

Ways to make it better...

We could do it all at once up front. Education, exhibits, visitor experience, meeting hosting...all demand staff time and funds. The Future of Flight is making great progress in all these areas, but with each success comes more challenges.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The public interest and willingness to support the Future of Flight is there now. Our main challenge is in raising the funds to complete the work plans in education and exhibits.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The Future of Flight is similar to a startup company. It has climbed a steep learning curve as a public attraction, meeting venue and educational center. There is a growing list of partners in this venture and many successes already.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
