Review for Assistance League® of the Eastside, Redmond, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've volunteered with the Assistance League of the Eastside since 2018. I love what this organization does for women & children east of Seattle & assault victims throughout the state. Working with 3 local school districts OPERATION SCHOOL BELL serves kids from low-income families. Listening to teachers, the Principal, Counselor & other staff at my grandkids elementary school I hear how proud the kids are to show off their new winter coat or tennis shoes & how relieved parents are to have the extra financial support for their families. It is truly rewarding to know my efforts can help strengthen my community.

ALE's philanthropic programs contribute so much to people in financial distress, the homeless & those who are escaping violence. The compassion of it's volunteers knows no boundaries. Helping individuals & families regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation, they give generously of their time, energy & resources. The changes they have made due to COVID-19 & it's impact show they're willingness to meet our community needs.

As a volunteer I have seen 1st hand & heard from Principals, Counselors & parents how the Operation School Bell program helps so many students (elementary through high school) feel respected and capable. As a former DV worker I know the Starting Over Support programs lets families escaping domestic violence know they are important to our community & that we support the hard work they have to do.

I loved working on Operation School Bell & seeing the smiles on family faces & getting feedback from teachers & school counselors about how proud kids were with new clothes. I was proud that ALE was able to make changes to better serve families during the pandemic. As a volunteer grant writer for ALE I am proud to sharing our financial data along with program statistics with potential funders knowing that are numbers are accurate & show frugal programs that work hard to give all we receive back to community.

I knew about the Assistance League because my Mom was a member in Calif. for 34 years & I heard about what her chapter was doing there. So when my life opened up & I had room to help others Assistance League of the Eastside (ALE) felt like the perfect place to go & after 2 months I already know I've made the right decision. This group is so welcoming & really takes the time & energy to training the new people on how & why this organization works! After the orientation I helped stuff dental bags for Operation School Bell (OSB), a well organized process that gave me time to get to know some of the new & long term members. Then I helped at OSB & what a surprising, rewarding adventure. I worked 3 nights & it was so fun to watch the kids excitement on getting new clothes for school & to hear the parents gratitude for the support they felt.
I have worked with other volunteer organization in my career, but I must say ALE is definitely one of the best. Well organized:
* to make every donation they receive count,
* to insure every volunteer is informed & feels appreciated
* to fill the needs of the communities they service
* & to Keep donors involved & informed of what they are contributing to.
