Review for Lamb Arts LTD-LAMB Theatre/School, Sioux City, IA, USA
I took part in the summer "EWE-NIVERSITY" theatre classes at LAMB every summer throughout middle school and high school. At the time we had no idea that this kind of opportunity was available, but it helped me more than I could ever have imagined. I didn't know it at the time, but I was since diagnosed with autism, and communicating with others had long been a struggle for me. LAMB helped me in a couple ways with this. First, it introduced me to other people who share the same interest as me, so I didn't feel isolated from my peers; I felt like I was part of a group and I belonged there. Secondly, LAMB helped me find a new way to communicate via the theatre. I discovered that while I struggle with one-on-one, spontaneous conversation, the theatre is a different way of communicating since everyone has a script and a set part. This the uncertainty out of communicating and helped me, as a person with autism, to communicate with others. We all need to share our passions and communicate with others; we just don't all do it in the same way. LAMB gave me a great outlet not only at that time, but beyond high school. I have since graduated from Morningside College as a mass communications major and a theatre minor, and LAMB was my first time discovering what a valuable tool the theatre can be.
