Review for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque, Albuquerque, NM, USA
In 1972 my mother and her friend, Bev Geck, attended a women's summit and learned about Meals on Wheels in other states. They came back to Immanuel Presbyterian Church, enlisted some friends and the ok to use the church kitchen. Immediately that group began making 8 meals a day for some elderly homebound folks. Well, the idea caught on. Bev became the first Executive Director, and, later, my mom became the first Volunteer Coordinator, serving as a paid employee then volunteer for over 30 years. My mother passed away this summer, but I'm happy to say I continue the family commitment by driving a route. Now the program has grown from 8 to over 500 meals delivered every day! I love Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque and the wonderful clients who we are privileged to visit with every week.
