Review for The Pain Community (a DBA of Women With Pain Coalition), Alamo, CA, USA
This is the place to look for a variety of resources and references new and old. The volunteers behind this nonprofit are a welcoming group who are generous with their time. They encourage people to share their talents and skill with others by submitting blogs, adding to the resource lists and participating in the chats, telephone support calls and discussion forums.

I’m proud to volunteer with THe Pain Community to advance efforts to promote Comprehensive Integrative Pain Medicine (CIPM). More and more research underscores that the most effective way to manage acute and chronic pain is to use a multi-modal approach incorporating things like massage, acupuncture, prescriptions, nutrition management, prescriptions, interventional procedures and many other things identified in a partnership between healthcare providers, caregivers and the person living with pain.

As a volunteer of this organization it is rewarding to hear from people that they have found the tools useful to patients, clinicians, family members and caregivers. There is a wide range of resources available for free throughout the website; archived research articles, tips on coping with pain, how-to's and lots of way to interact with others.
The launching of the Pain College section last year with the Healing Arts module of self-paced webinars to understand what Art Therapy is and how to incorporate some of those principles into a comprehensive integrative pain care model has been popular. I went through the course once and am considering doing it again because it was so enlightening.

There is so much in the resources section that I am always able to find something new that relates to my current situation. It is reassuring to know that one option for distraction from pain is to learn and do research; two thing easily accomplished at this web-based support organization.
