Review for Hospice of San Luis Obispo County, San Luis Obispo, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have used several of the services of Hospice of San Luis Obispo County as a county resident before and after family members passed away - my father, and the horse I had for 30 years - within 10 months of each other. The exceptional assistance made all the difference to my emotional and psychological well-being during this challenging time.
We are so fortunate to have the range of services offered, with the incredible quality of staff and volunteers. Most of my friends and family in other parts of the country do not have access to so many services.
I have also had the privilege of serving as volunteer as a Doula, Threshold Singer and with Pet Peace of Mind programs. The training, teams and support are excellent. We are so blessed to have Hospice of San Luis Obispo County as a non-medical Hospice for all of our well-being.

I’ve been a volunteer for four years with Hospice SLO and also a recipient
Of services for grief after my father died, and then my horse died.
The staff are all exceptional in level of care and assisting you in receiving the resources needed. Receiving grief counseling was extremely helpful for moving through grief. I had previously been in counseling at other times of my life when someone close died but never specifically grief counseling. This was different and extremely helpful and comforting.
As a volunteer as an End-of-Life and Death Doula, for their Pet Peace of Mind program, and with the Threshold Singers we receive excellent training, ongoing support and education.

Review for Skydog Sanctuary , Malibu, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Skydog is one of the most caring, compassionate and educational Mustang Sanctuaries. I’ve been following them since I discovered them back in early 2017. I even had the great pleasure of volunteering at their Malibu location one day. Talking with the long time volunteers and Clare was so moving. They had recently brought in Goliath, and One of his mares Red Lady- this was my introduction to understanding the families of the Mustang herd communities. Shortly after I visited, Red Lady had her foal Bodhi.
I’ve been watching the sanctuary grow these past 4 years by leaps and bounds on a mission to bring mustangs who’d been separated via round ups together again in safe freedom. It’s been a extraordinary to witness via social media. I always learn so much from Clare’s posts, videos and pictures. I’ve watched them develop into a profoundly healing, caring and compassionate sanctuary and growing herd of supporting people. I love hearing people’s heart opening responses. I’m so grateful for Clare and her extraordinary team for all the work they do.

Hospice SLO gives an exceptional and unusual range of services in the county. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and are wonderful advocates for those in need of hospice services. They are a gem in the community and we are so fortunate to have them based here in SLO.

I arrived to the Volunteer training nervous with many questions - who would be there, what would this training be like, what emotions would it bring up, and was I prepared to move forward with volunteering at this time. Right from the beginning, it became clear that this was going to be a positive, powerful, excellent, and engaging group and training.

I have been both a participant, and also a leader, for many different types of trainings for decades. The training for Hospice SLO was superb in every way: the level of knowledge, respect, compassion and warmth towards volunteers and hospice recipients is present in each and every segment of the training. The thoroughness of preparation for volunteers is deeply caring, and exemplary.

From a personal perspective, I found this training to be deeply healing. I have experienced many deaths in my life, and although I have spent much time healing and moving through losses, being with a compassionate, knowledgeable group in this manner who are desiring to use their experiences for service is inspiring, profoundly soothing and healing. I am looking forward to participating in many of the programs.

My training at Hospice SLO was everything I hoped and much more. I felt uplifted, supported and ready to move forward with volunteering.
