Review for Keepers of the Wild, Valentine, AZ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I live in Kingman, AZ - approximately 30 miles from the Keepers of the Wild sanctuary. My husband and I visited this exotic animal sanctuary several times - taking out family members when they came to visit. I noticed how all the animals were well cared for and seemed happy. The enclosures were large and had shade/water for the animals. As a result of these observations, I began volunteering. All staff, including the director and co-director are always pleasant and helpful. They have always provided me with any documents I need for grant applications in a timely manner. This is a very worthy non-profit organization that struggles to do everything they can for these abandoned/neglected/abused animals on the small budget they have. All of their donations are from individuals and a few small grants from foundations.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Multiple ways. Through seeing successful care of the exotic animals and their happiness. Satisfaction of rehabilitation and release of indigenous animals.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Utilize a staff member for public relations and marketing.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Having the satisfaction of knowing I have helped these exotic animals.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Happy in their work, willing to share their time with visitors and give them an in-depth talk about the animals.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Have a better habitat for the wolves and half-breeds, as well as an outdoor aviary for the exotic birds. They would also be able to put the money in an account to keep the sanctuary going for many, many years without constantly struggling financially.

Ways to make it better...

NA

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Financial.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This non-profit animal sanctuary has existed for over 15 years with the same dedicated director and co-director. They and the rest of the staff work for little money and do it out of love for the animals.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Volunteer & I cleaned cages/shelters, write grants, clerical duties.
