Review for Abode, Fremont, CA, USA
Abode Services' mission is to end homelessness by assisting low-income, un-housed people, including those with special needs, to secure stable, supportive housing; and to be advocates for the removal of the causes of homelessness. Their work is critical in 2018 and beyond in the San Francisco Bay Area! Homelessness is at a record high and the average cost of rent is increasing day-after-day. Homelessness has no face and can often be chalked up to bad luck or having been dealt a difficult hand. Abode Services truly works to develop and implement innovative programs to end homelessness in the Greater Bay Area.
Abode Services has been in our community since 1989, when a small group of people came together to address a growing problem with family homelessness in the Tri-City Area. Since then, the organization has expanded their impact throughout the Bay Area, serving more than 6,100 adults and children per year in Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, and Napa counties!
The Abode Services Outreach Team finds people like Matt (pictured) who are living on the streets and connects them to housing and the services they may need to remain housed.
Matt lived on the streets for five years before he sought help from an Abode Services Outreach Team staff member who was visiting an encampment. Now, Matt lives in an apartment near Oakland’s Lake Merritt.
“The place is just unbelievable,” Matt says of his new home. “It’s something I thought I would never have again.”
