Abode

Abode is the type of company we need more of. I've been in all kind of cities and counties and the homeless issue is so well, everywhere. I try to volunteer when I can because companies like Abode are doing the job that noboddy else seems to want to do.

I've been watching northern california's homeless problem for many years now. And I've been donating money and time to several agencies in several cities and I hoped it would all make a difference. The best organization for making real change around homelessness is Abode. I like what I see from them and I like how they do the job. They just get the job done. Their is no other nonprofit like them.

I'm proud to give to Abode Services each time I make a donation. I've had friends that were directly helped by dedicated Abode social workers and other employees. I encourage everyone I know to volunteer and give to this charity.

I've had the privilege of seeing the positive results of Abode's work. I marvel at the leaders and employees of this non-profit. They've accomplished a lot in terms of the important work of reducing homelessness.

I am proud to have served on its Board and over the years watched its meteoric rise as first a Fremont-based nonprofit providing one local shelter to a regional, statewide and national leader in building affordable housing and placing residents in permanent housing with its evidence-based housing first agenda.

As a retired nonprofit employee, I can vouch that the people at Abode truly care about their participants.

Abode has provided opportunities for high school students to serve the community, and have provided detailed guidance for the volunteers to follow. They especially emphasize hygiene procedures to ensure the quality of the service. Abode has a very homely feel to it due to the cleanliness of the environment. The staff are also extremely welcoming and understanding.

I have been volunteering with Abode Services in Fremont, CA for over 21 years. Their mission is to end homelessness by assisting low-income, un-housed people, including those with special needs to secure stable, supportive housing. They serve more than 15,000 people each year in 7 counties in the bay area.
In addition, they provide food, shelter and other needed items to the individual and families. They are amazing!

I'm very, very worried about the state of the Bay Area. Everywhere I go, I see people who are struggling to find a home. Encampments. Hard working and gainfully employed neighbors who still can't afford their own apartment and end up sleeping in their car. It should not be that way. We've got to fix the problems that are causing this stuff. But I thank Abode Services and all the other nonprofits that are doing all they can to help people living on the margins. Vulnerable and struggling people who are our neighbors and friends and, yeah, sometimes family. My experience with this organization is all positive.

We are our brother's keeper. I'm writing here because I deeply appreciate Abode and the work that it does. I've seen them give social services to those who badly need them, and I've seen them build housing in this region - which badly needs new housing off all types. Thank you, Abode!

What can I say that hassn't already been said. Homeless people got so many trials and tribbulations. They get judged by society. Get treated pretty bad by authorities. But with Abode, nobody gets judged. Everybody gets treated fair. Most of all, they get a second shot. A second chance. That's what so many want. Just another chance. That's that Abode gives to society.

It's so alarming to see the homelessness crisis so badly effect our neighborhoods and towns in Northern California. This organisation gives me hope, for really the first time in a long time, that we as a society can solve this problem. All of us are just one or two paychecks away from losing our homes. We need great groups and nonprofits like Abode Services, which has been doing this great work for years and years and years. I applaud them.

This is just one of the best nonprofits around. Abode Services team of committed workers run programs that help families, kids, parents, single mothers, military veterans, individuals living with major illnesses. From my experience as a sometime volunteer and neighbor, Abode Services lends a helping hand to Bay Area folks who are struggling financially and emotionally. I can't imagine how bad things would be if we didn't have kind people like Abode Services doing the truly hard work that they do.

I wish I could give Abode more than 5 stars. I'm so proud to have donated to it. They say their mission is "to end homelessness in our community." From what I've seen, that is exactly what they are doing in a bunch of different spots around the Bay Area. I hope they keep up the great work because we need it.

I get very emotional talking about this group. A good buddy of mine was in a bad way. He is a veteran and he was haunted by so many demons. He just couldn't seem to get off the street. Even though he worked real hard and tried to stay out of trouble. He wasn't always successful at that last part. But Abode Services came to the rescue. They helped my buddy. They worked with him. Never judged him. Always had a positive about not only his chances to find housing, but they were also positive about him as a person. He said it was the first time anybody said anything nice about him. That was a bit of an exaggeration but I got his point. I saw a turnaround. I saw a change in self-esteem. And then a change in behavior. A change in work habits. Before long, he had his own apartment. He always worked full-time but now he was getting promotions. His life has totally changed. I can't thank Abode enough for this. It's like getting my old friend back.

The housing and homelessness crisis is no joke. But Abode has responded to these crises with a commitment and a zeal to fulfilling their mission. All they want to do is end homelessness in the community and to help people in need. That's it. The good news is that their workers are so passionate about helping people who really need the help. They give so much to help people experiencing homelessness. Abode is a wonderful organization.

Abode Services is amazing! I lots of people in San Jose and Santa Clara and Fremont who have been helped by the wonderful employees who assist good people who just caught a bad break. I look forward to Abode Services continue to do their level best to help people who are struggling financially and emotionally and just need someone to be kind to them.

Homeless folks have a hard life. I think Abode does the best job in the Bay at helping people who don't have a home. It's very difficult but Abode really, really helps people. I've seen Abode employees do excellent work at what has become one of the Bay Area's hardest to solve problems

I know what it's like to be financially struggling, to be socially vulnerable. To have to worry about where your next meal is coming from. I'm doing fine now, but many a night I couch surfed or worried about sleeping in my car. Now that I'm in a good spot, I try to give back and help the people who struggle like I used to. Abode Services helps people who are in my shoes. People who, like me or maybe you, are just a few bad breaks away from being homeless. Keep up the great work, Abode!

Abode Services takes care of those who are in need, unheard and unseen. Their staff is dedicated and delves deep into the community to help those who are less fortunate.

Abode Services has saved so many people from falling through the cracks. They have a dedicated staff that helps the community and those less fortunate.

Abode gets the job done. In a year with millions of people newly unemployed, Abode Service rehouses people and gets them medical help. People who might otherwise die without the kind work of these hard-working employees.

I've seen this nonprofit do good work in fixing the housing crisis. I've had relatives who needed help ASAP and Abode staffers came through for them. I so appreciate them.

It's hard for me to write about Abode without getting emotional. They rock! During this pandemic, they just stepped up and gave shelter to kids, moms, dads, etc. Everyone should be treated as nicely as Abode workers treat their participants.

Abode Services showed the strength of its core mission during the Covid-19 crisis by stepping up to help individuals and families with the most imperative of needs -- shelter -- made more critical by the pandemic. Many thanks to Abode, and those who support the organization, for its essential work providing others with the foundation for the stability, security, and independence that we too often take for granted.

I have seen my neighborhood improve 100% after Abode Services developed an apartment building there. People who had been struggling now have a home and are off the streets. The street in which I live, which used to look a little haggard and disheveled, now is clean and inviting. A few new businesses have even moved in. I really appreciate the care and pride that Abode Services has brought our neighborhood, while also helping people who would otherwise be struggling.

Abode Housing services is horrible! I’ve had to live next door to three different tenants from this program and now it is time for me to move out. I can’t take it anymore. They will move in drug dealers and people with severe Issues into a nice thriving neighborhood and these clients of theirs will run that neighborhood into the ground as they have done mine. It’s horrible, I used to think so differently about housing programs until I experienced living next door to multiple people from this program. So disappointed that this is where my tax dollars are going.

This housing crisis is so serious and hurting so many people in the Bay Area. Abode Services deserves so much credit for helping thousands of homeless people each year.

I just retired from Abode Services after 18 1/2 years of direct service case management - starting at Sunrise Village Shelter and making my way through many of Abode's supportive housing Programs I had the opportunity to work with Transition Age Youth, families, singles, Veterans, individuals living with HIV, mental health, physical health and substance use challenges.
My experience during my tenure was incredibly positive. Abode Services focuses on supporting the most vulnerable in the Bay Area, upper management works to find new and innovative solutions to solving the issue of homelessness and supporting those who are experiencing transition into supportive housing.

This is an overdue review. Back in late July, I happened to see a Abode HOPE Project Mobile Health Clinic at a church parking lot. I parked on the side to observe and saw first hand how two Abode employees interacted with several homeless people with kindness and respect. I then stopped by to introduce myself and gave the Abode employee by the name of Kevin a Kids Against Hunger meal pack and a brochure.

A homeless man asked me if I had more Kids Against Hunger meals to give to him. I told him that I didn’t have anymore to give out but that the students in Fremont would love to pack more meals to help the needs of our community. He asked if I’d mind that he prays for the Kids Against Hunger volunteers, for Kevin and for Abode. I was deeply touched hearing the words of his prayer, giving thanks about all the help he has received from Abode. Thank you Abode for bringing hope to those who feel hopeless.

Abode has turned my life around. I am a single mom, over a decade ago, I found myself homeless. My sons and I found hope with abode. Through the shelter we were able to find and sustain the basic needs we needed, and more importantly find housing. We hav been stable ever since. I believe in Abode. The staff at Abode is the best. They we’re diligent at helping a homeless single mom over a decade ago. They helped me and they can help you as well.

As a community member, I have seen how Abode Services believes in more than Band-Aid fixes to make the Bay Area a livable place for all of its residents. Abode has been making the Bay Area a better place for its residents to live now and in the future, no matter what their means. Thank you, Abode, for the work you are doing.

I have been a dedicated fan of Abode Services for many years - participating in volunteer activities, making donations, attending fundraising and community outreach events. They have been an active member of our community for so long, providing support through shelter and services -- and working with government, local businesses, and landlords to creatively fund, and effectively enable this support.

Abode Services is a wonderful nonprofit in the Greater Bay Area. They provide services and resources to the community in regards to affordable housing. The staff is passionate with helping the community. Abode believes and remains committed to their mission by eradicating homelessness. Their approach is to use the Housing First Model. And it works! Housing First equates to life stability. It gets people into housing by eliminating the many obstacles one needs to find housing. In addition, staff provides the resources to participants by meeting them where they are at and assessing plans that help them succeed to get them into housing and keep them there.

I'm not only a donor, I've also referred a close friend of mine to Abode's resources. Outside of Abode, she had many hardships to overcome. She was immediately placed in our shelter for a short period until her case worker was able to secure permanent housing for her and her 4 children. She has since been housed for the last 6 months of this review. With the support of staff, family and friends, she now has created an even bigger support group to keep her housed thanks to Abode.

As an Administrative staff member of this organization, I see a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that occurs at Abode Services. It is incredible to see how much work goes into making our services possible and how dedicated our agency is to making it happen every single day.

Abode is great because its workers have been willing to assist me for any inquiries for services I need or problems that arise. They’ve helped me adapt to the neighborhood. It’s been really good having someone there to answer questions or give you guidance to the answers. Having someone from Abode here on site, having that point of reference, has helped me because, without them, a lot of times we’re alone and don’t know who to ask. Abode has made the transition from homelessness to being housed a lot better. It’s a weight off my shoulders knowing that someone is there to help. Abode helps in so many ways. It’s shocking to me – in a good way – that this kind of help is available.

My income is quite low and my family of five needed help with food and with moving, and Abode Services helped us out. Their employees go the extra yard -- they helped us settle in, and got us clothes and furniture and they're even going to give my son his first real birthday party. I'm a veteran and, from what I've heard from other veterans, Abode has helped them out a lot, too.

Abode has given me a home for me and my kids, and made my life a lot better. I felt really stagnant before; I had things to do but I couldn't do them because I didn't have stability. Now that I have stability, I can live my life. That stability allows me to do the simple, normal things I couldn't before. Now that I'm housed, I don't feel stuck anymore.

I was two or three days away from being on the street and Abode Services saved me. My experience at Abode was nothing but wonderful. When my ship comes in, I’d like to help Abode the way it helped me.

I really appreciate all that Abode Services has done for me. Several Abode workers have not only assisted me, they've also been straight shooters with me. I've gotten a roof over my head and I've gotten back on my feet, and a lot of that is because of Abode. Thank you.

IT WAS THE BEST AT FIRST WHEN WE STARTED WITH THE PROGRAM HOWEVER, TOWARDS THE END IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE OUT OF HELL. NOT GOING TO SAY ALL BUT THE PPL THEY HAD HANDLING MY CASE, HAVE NO KIND OF SYMPATHY, COMPASSION & INSENSITIVE. I FEEL LIKE THE LEADER OF THE TEAM INTENTIONALLY SET ME AND MY FAMILY UP FOR FAILURE, HAVING SOME FORM OF PERSONAL ISSUES WITH MYSELF AND NEVER MET ME. SHE STAYED TALKING ABOUT ME LEAVING THE PROGRAM CAUSING EXCESSIVE STRESS, AND I MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO SPEAK WITH SOME ONE ABOVE HER TO EXPRESS MY CONCERNS WITH HER AND NOT ONCE WERE THEY TAKEN SERIOUSLY INSTEAD THIS WOMAN HAS ME APPEARING AS THOUGH I AM CRAZY AND BEING THE END I GUARANTEE SHE FEELS ACCOMPLISHED TO THAT FACT THAT MY FAM AND I HAVE TO LEAVE THE SHELTER NOW, NOT KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING RECEIVING NOTHING BUT HARASSMENT CRITISIM AND SARCASM REGARDING MY SITUATION THE ENTIRE TIME.. And THE COMMENT IVE BEEN ADVISED TO DO HAVING TO LEAVE THE SHELTER... TO SEE "TEMPORARY OIL" TO PRETTY MUCH STAY IN UNTIL I GET INCOME BEING DOOR DASH ISNT SUFFICIENT INCOME TO THEM AND ITS JUST BEEN A BUNCH OF HELL AND BEING THE END IM JUST GOING TO LET GO AND LET GOD BEING A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. THEY DO NOT CARE WHERE MY CHILD AND I WILL GO AS LONG AS WE LEAVE THE SHELTER AND STAY IN CONTACT WITH THEM WHILE IM GONE REQUESTING I PROVIDE THEM WITH DOCUMENTS WEEKLY BUT NOT ASKING OR CARING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT WHERE WE WILL GO... ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THE PROGRAM MAYBE SUCCESSFUL FOR SOME, HOWEVER IN MY CASE WITHOUT A DOUBT THERE WAS DISCRIMINATION IF NOT BY RACE; DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAVE A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND AND INSTEAD OF WORKING WITH ME THE ONE WOMAN IN CHARGE LOVED TO EMPHASIZE THE FACT THAT THIS IS A "RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAM" MEANING "RAPID" BASICALLY TELLING ME MY SITUATION ISNT ONE THEY CAN ASSIST AND SO THEY ARE NOT AND WILL BE WAVING GOODBYE WITH SMILES AS THEY WATCH US DEPART BACK INTO THE STREETS RESIDING IN MY CAR.. AND DO THEY CARE, PLEASE THEY HAVENT EVEN ACTED CONCERN OR ASKED WHERE WILL WE GO AND ONLY RECOMMENDED WE FIND TEMPORARY OIL AND DONT HAVE AN ISSUE BECAUSE ALL OF MINE WENT UNHEARD TO WHERE THEY TOOK ME SERIOUSLY, NEVER, BUT THEY PLAYED THE ROLE VERY GUD..

Abode Services is working to end homelessness for families and individuals by developing and leasing homes. Their utilization of the housing first model has proven so successful that they are now approached by local jurisdictions to get involved in their communities. As a volunteer, I have provided administrative assistance to Abode Services Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter for the past five years. I have also helped organize fundraisers through another non-profit organization providing donations of clothing for the residents of this Shelter. Abode Services provides an outstanding service for the homeless in the area and is totally committed to improving the lives of homeless people. I know they really appreciate all of the volunteers that help keep this Shelter going.

My husband and I have volunteered with other church members to provide dinners ever since Abode's Sunshine Village opened. We also donate to Abode because of the value of their services.

Have been going to the Sunrise Village for the past 20 years. Jean is very friendly to work with. We cook meals(mostly dinner) for the residents. Although my daughter would like to tutor some day. Kitchen is clean and well maintained.

Our church group has been purchasing, preparing, and serving a monthly evening meal for the residents at Sunrise Village ever since it opened. We have stayed committed because we have seen how dedicated and effective the administration has guided the homeless to better opportunities for themselves and their families. Their methods have gained national and regional attention. The residents themselves have been so appreciative of the help, we feel a kinship to them.

Very well organised place that provides temporary shelter with all facilities for needy people. Great service to the community.

I am very thankful to Abode Services for giving me the opportunity to work with this organization as part of the SSVF program. I was promoted to lead case worker three months ago. This was very rewarding to me and showed me that I had the trust of my peers and supervisor and upper management to carry out this task of training and supervising fellow co workers. This is a powerful program that assist homeless veterans or at risk of becoming homeless. It was very satisfying to help our veteran to get back on their feet and thrive in the community. This is by far the best program to date in assisting veteran families. From our shelter to the out reach workers in the field have extended a professionalism beyond compare to the veteran and their families.

Absolutely horrible place to work. They hire uneducated poor quality managers that dictate rather than lead, unhealthy negative work environments, and you will be surrounded by cut throat co-workers. Zero protection and or development of staff. Organization ran by four women mainly whom are liars, unprofessional, and undermining. HR is a joke and policies are ignored. If you are young, educated, smart, and beautiful stay away, you will be targeted! Best day of my life is when I left and never looked back.

This review is based on their reputation for inability to retain staff and high turnover. How can the public receive consistent services if their staff keep changing? I am frustrated as a client and have inquired about this issue. I am suspecting this is due to management.

To end homelessness by assisting low-income, un-housed people to secure stable, supportive housing; and to be advocates for the removal of the causes of homelessness in Alameda County, California. An ambitious goal set by an ambitious organization, staffed by dedicated professionals, all working united behind the common goal of ending homelessness as we know it! I have been associated with Abode Services for over 12 years, the last 1.5 year serving on the Board of Directors. In my tenor on the Board I have become ever more aware of the scope and reach of the organization and how many lives Abode Services changes for the better every day. It is inspiring to watch the dedication and commitment of the management and staff.

My husband and I have been volunteers with Abode Services for many years. We have cooked dinners at Sunrise Village, delivered food from the food banks, and tutored children at Sunrise and the Winter Relief Program. The Abode staff is always so helpful, attentive and most appreciative. They really care about the families they are helping. We also enjoy the compkany of all the other volunteers - great people!

I have cooked dinner once a month at Abode (formerly at Tri City Homeless Coalition) for about 12 years. It is a great place providing much needed services in our community. The staff is wonderful. They do so much with so little. Over the years, I have involved my 2 oldest children, teaching them the value of giving back to our community. I feel strongly about the services Abode provides. So strong, that last year I persuaded my church to make a significant donation to fund a piece of capital equipment needed for the kitchen.

I found ABODE Services through a friend and have been a volunteer tutor for the last couple of weeks. I am looking forward the next school season and see results...it will be the most rewarding experience.

I spend time with the teens each week. Mostly just spending time with them, playing games, etc. Recently took them on a field trip to a rock climbing gym. Also voluteered at another facility to offer a fitness class. And donated some money. Don't have too much insight into the inner working of the organization, but the services they provide seem to be very helpful. They have both short term and long term assistance. They accomodate varying level of needs, as far as counseling, etc. are concerned. At the long term facility they counsel family units as a unit, not just individuals, which I think is great. All the people that I know that work for them seem to enjoy what they are doing, which is always important, and the residents seem to be benefiting from the services and assistance they receive.

I have a very fun time volunteering at this non-profit organization. They are doing a great job helping homeless people out. They give these people a shelter which they can call home.

Having attended the annual Journey Home breakfast and hearing testimony from people who have been helped, I know Abode is doing amazing work. This organization truly helps people in need.

I have enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen at least once a week for the last three years. I am impressed at the full range of services that are given to those in need. Abode not only gets homeless people into shelter but gets to the causes of homelessness.

Abode Services not only helps homeless people, it helps prevent them from becoming homeless ever again. Unlike organizations that provide emergency shelter only, Abode is in it to stablilze participants' living situation for the long term. It treats people with respect and professionalism.

I currently set on the Board of Abode Services and Allied Housing. I have been involved with the organization for over 12 years. The growth and development of the programs this organiztion serve in our community is outstanding.

Abode Services is a very careful steward of their resources. The organization's commitment to the homeless of Southern Alameda County is without compare, due in large measure to the skills of the professional staff. Abode has a vital role to play in ensuring that needy individuals receive shelter in a worsening budgetary climate.

I am a long-time supporter and former board member of Abode Services and Allied Housing, and was chair of the Fund Development Committee. I worked especially hard on the Journey Home Breakfast using the "Raising More Money" model. I think the property tours and the timely following up with potential donors is imperative for this model to be successful.
