Being an intern at Curamericas for the past 2 months has been a great experience. I have met wonderful, committed people that work towards fulfilling the organization’s goals and have had the chance to learn more about global health issues as well as incorporate new skills. In a few words, Curamericas Global strives to provide primary health services to mothers and young children in poverty-stricken communities around the world. I worked with the project being implemented in Guatemala, specifically with the testimonies of people served by the project, which gave me the chance to understand first-hand how important the endeavor is. Two essential components pave the way to successful interventions: they are locally-based and culturally-appropriate. By helping to provide services while engaging the locals and respecting their customs and traditions, the project has a greater impact and ensures its sustainability. I very much look forward to volunteering with Curamericas in the future!
