I worked for one of Curamericas Global's overseas partners and was captivated by its relentless emphasis on measuring the results of its efforts. The outstanding results were useful not only for management and generating useful institutional partnerships, but for motivating staff and generating community ownership and understanding.
Curamericas Global is doing excellent, incredible work helping mothers and babies in forgotten areas. By utilizing local CHWs, Curamericas Global creates programs from the ground up that are sustainable and life changing. Would highly recommend joining their team and becoming part of their mission.
Curamericas Global is having tremendous impact in communities as I've seen not only through my role as a Board of Director, but also my 7 international trips visiting and seeing this impact in person
If you are considering interning here, do it! It's a great work environment, and Andrew is always available and receptive to feedback. I felt like there was a strong focus on ensuring the work I was doing was in line with my expectations. This organization is making a tremendous impact, both locally in the Carolinas and around the globe.
As someone who has seen firsthand how underdeveloped the healthcare systems are in 3rd world countries like Guatemala, seeing Curamericas Global working actively in these areas and seeing a quantifiable impact is really meaningful to me. Being an intern for the program has given me insight into how the organization works to reach thousands of people and has allowed me to educate not only myself but others as well. Curamericas Global is consisted of a community of hardworking and passionate individuals and has made a tremendous and positive impact all around the world.
Curamericas Global is an amazing place to intern at! Everyone I've met is very passionate about spreading hope through health and touching the lives of mothers and children. Their focus on preventing treatable disease and helping others has drawn me to intern with them, and it has been such a rewarding experience. They're doing great things for the world, and their message is so positive and inspiring. Whether it be through health initiatives in Liberia or HIV education in Haiti, Curamericas Global has done so much to prevent maternal deaths and to treat many people, and they make sure to give people the resources to stay healthy by focusing on health education as well.
As a new intern with Curamericas, I can truly see the passion of everyone that works or volunteers with the organization and the significant role the organization plays in children and mothers' health around the world and in my community. Learning about all the stories and ways Curamericas has reached families has been heart warming and life changing for me. I can't wait for what my internship has in store for me and help Curamericas reach it's goals.
I absolutely love everything that the organization stands for, and I think that they do tremendous work for mothers and children around the globe. As a new intern here at this organization, I believe that the programs that they have have been truly beneficial for many individuals not only in our community, but around the globe as well! Through this organization I have become more aware towards the realities of maternal and child mortality. I am so proud to be a part of this mission and excited for whats yet to come.
Since retiring from healthcare in 2017, I have been volunteering with this top notch organization at our truly humble headquarters in Raleigh, NC. I see first hand the dedication Curamericas Global has to giving a future to, and improving that future of, some of the most vulnerable mothers and children in some of the most forgotten and needy of places in this world.
What are a few of the reasons I chose this particular organization to support? Simply stated, Curamericas GETS IT RIGHT! One is we are invited to the communities with which we partner with the goal of giving a hand up, not a hand out, until the community can sustain their own efforts. This has actually happened in the first partnership country of Bolivia. They are self-sustaining! Another is each dollar donated is handled with the utmost care and never wasted. Heck, we recycle manila file folders over and over. Yet another is that Curamericas wants nothing in return from the communities we serve...only to see our culturally respectful joint efforts pay off in terms of reducing the number of lives lost from preventable diseases and bringing hope through health to all we can. Again, this is actually happening. For example, there hasn't been a single death from pregnancy in our now self-sustaining project in Montero, Bolivia for over 10 years. Another example is the locally nicknamed "Triangle of Death" in Guatemala has been changed into a model area where death rates for mothers and children have been reduced by over 60% in a few short years, and now the area is locally known as the "Triangle of Life"! How great is that!!
Curamericas is one small but powerful organization with scientifically measured success and a unique approach working to end preventable maternal and child deaths, AND IT DOES!
I have worked with Curamericas Global since 2016- as a volunteer medical provider on 2 separate trips to Guatemala, and as a public health researcher, part of a team writing up the results of Curamericas' good work.
Curamericas Global is heads above other organizations I have worked with in terms of working together with communities to bring about lasting change. Their model of partnering with local NGOs builds capacity in the places they are working, creates more equitable programs and provides built in sustainability. The CBIO methodology means that no one is left behind, and makes sure programs reach the most marginalized members of the community.
The volunteer trips/cultural exchanges are well run and a perfect mix of work + learning about the culture. I've brought two of my kids on the volunteer trips, and my youngest can't wait until she is old enough to go- a terrific experience for all!
My time volunteering with Curamericas has been extremely rewarding. I've had the pleasure of seeing first-hand how passionate everyone who works or volunteers with Curamericas is about saving the lives of mothers and children. I especially love the ability of Curamericas to deliver aid effectively as a result of the data-driven aid model.
Great organization to be a part of. Got to meet some great people and leaned a lot about global health programs and digital marketing/fundraising. Casual work atmosphere, but dedicated to instill change for so many families in low-resource areas of the globe. I had a great experience interning with them.
I just began my internship at Curamericas Global and I am loving it! Being a part of this team means being involved in the mission of supporting and providing healthcare to vulnerable communities. This has already been such a humbling experience that I am incredibly grateful for!
I have been interning at Curamericas for about 3 months now and this experience has been rewarding in multiple ways. I have learned the impact Curamericas makes on the underdeveloped communities that they partner with. Being a huge advocate for sustainable healthcare, I loved being an intern here because of how much Curamericas provides sustainability to the communities they work in. Being able to see first hand what Curamericas provides to these underserved communities is an indescribable feeling. As my internship is coming to an end, I can say I am so grateful I got the opportunity to be here and help make such an impact!
Curamericas is a nonprofit works to provide hope through health by improving the health and wellness of women and children in underserved communities around the world. Over the 2 months I have spent interning at Curamericas I have witnessed first hand how passionate and driven the volunteers and staff are to reducing high maternal and child death around the world. This organization has made significant positive contributions to improving maternal care in countries such as, Guatemala, Liberia, Kenya, Haiti, Bolivia and Sierra Leone. I am proud to have worked at such an amazing organization.
I interned with Curamericas for 2 weeks, and I can definitely say I've learned a lot. Curamericas is definitely driven to save the lives of women and children in underprivileged countries by providing them with health care, and it was amazing learning that. I loved interning with them because although I'm only a rising senior, I was able to help out with so many things. I helped with the website, did inventory, while also learning about the company at large. If you are looking to work with a company that truly believes in what they're doing, I definitely recommend Curamericas.
I Interned at Curamericas for two weeks during the early June as a high school junior and I enjoyed it so much, I'm considering coming back late in the summer to intern again or just help out. Curamericas is really dedicated to global health but also sustainability. They make sure the projects that they initiate can be continued by the respective communities and actually answer the needs of the people rather than what other think the community needs are. I found myself absolutely fascinated by the work I did and its honestly made me reconsider my college plans. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has a passion for service and public health.
I am currently an intern at Curamericas Global and it has been an amazing experience! Every day I come in excited to work on our current projects/events/etc. The team of interns and staff at Curamericas are so passionate about helping others and making a true difference around the world. The work that Curamericas does in underserved countries is amazing and inspiring. I am so thankful I was given this opportunity to be around such life-changing work!
I've really enjoyed my internship experience at Curamericas Global. Their work and mission perfectly aligns with both my values and professional public health interests in maternal and child health, and I've been able to both lend some professional skills to some of my internship tasks while honing new ones. This experience has genuinely enhanced my MPH education by providing me with many opportunities to apply knowledge gained in the classroom in a practical way. The Curamericas staff are great supervisors and help interns learn to accomplish their tasks well, and the community of volunteers that provides hours of support to the organization is a positive group to be a part of.
Curamericas does global health the right way. They work with communities in some of the most remote, low-resource areas of the world to create sustainable improvements to maternal and child health through education, outreach and providing resources. Their programs are evidence-based, community-led and rigorously evaluated. I am proud to work for and support this amazing organization!
I'm passionate about the maternal and child health work Curamericas provides to under-resourced areas of the world. As a global health professional and an avid volunteer, I understand the value of sustainable programs and the importance of developing models that measure true impact. I recently discovered Curamericas in my search for a Raleigh-based organization in NC and have truly found a home to place my passion, time, and professional efforts. Thank you CG team for creating an environment that brings together amazing staff, volunteers, educators, supporters, and partners to make real change in the lives we touch.
Curamericas is an empowering orgnization that supports underserved communities in efforts to eliviate their burden from preventable diseases. The advocacy that Curamericas provides for mothers and children around the world is unmatched. This organization has made great strides in their work to make sustainable changes in the field of gloabl health.
Interning with Curamericas Global has been an amazing experience! Curamericas stands out from other non-profits in their proven methodology of partnering with at-risk communities in establishing sustainable solutions to reducing child and maternal mortality rates in some of the most at-risk communities in countries such as Guatemala, Haiti, Kenya, and Bolivia.
Curamericas Global is a great advocate for change in global health. The organization has done a remarkable job of providing education and resources for mothers and children in countries such as Bolivia, Guatemala, Liberia, Hati, Kenya and Sierra Leone. It has also done a great job of catering to local communities through events such as Hops for Hope and the Mommy and Daughter Tea.
Curamericas Global is an amazing organization that has been very effective in reducing the rates of child and maternal mortality across the globe. They focus on bringing primary health care to areas of limited access and have been very successful in their endeavors. The work that they do is incredible and I am proud to say that I'm a part of it.
Interning at Curamericas for the last two and half months have had a tremendous positive effect on me. From learning more about health disparities to maternal and child health, Curamericas does a great job at making sure its partners communities are involved in program development and implementation. Most importantly, I have had a great leader in Andrew and very passionate and mission driven colleagues with whom I have had a good team work experience. Curamericas' mission of hope through health is something I really care about and having seen first hand how health disparities affect rural areas made my commitment to this mission even bigger. This organization's stunning results in using the CBIO methodology worldwide in Guatemala, Kenya and Liberia is an inspiration that I will carry with me as I take upon new endeavors in the future in the nonprofit sectors. Last but not the least, I have tremendously improved my skills in Search engine optimization, fundraising and social media. I could not possibly ask for a better experience this summer!!

My first contact with Curamericas was through an interview I had with Andrew, The Executive Director. I needed some information for a project I was working on and he was extremely helpful. I did a great deal of research about the organization and concluded that it was the right place to work if one had a passion for international development, so I decided to intern with the organization. There is a long list of reasons why Curamericas is a unique nonprofit. The first is that, their projects and programs have a strong impact which is supported by rigorous research and evidence. Additionally, the projects are designed with an emphasis on sustainability, ensuring that even after the organization is no longer working directly with the communities they serve, the good work still goes on. Overall, it is a one of a kind nonprofit that is truly making a difference, one individual at a time.
Being an intern at Curamericas for the past 2 months has been a great experience. I have met wonderful, committed people that work towards fulfilling the organization’s goals and have had the chance to learn more about global health issues as well as incorporate new skills. In a few words, Curamericas Global strives to provide primary health services to mothers and young children in poverty-stricken communities around the world. I worked with the project being implemented in Guatemala, specifically with the testimonies of people served by the project, which gave me the chance to understand first-hand how important the endeavor is. Two essential components pave the way to successful interventions: they are locally-based and culturally-appropriate. By helping to provide services while engaging the locals and respecting their customs and traditions, the project has a greater impact and ensures its sustainability. I very much look forward to volunteering with Curamericas in the future!
I interned with Curamericas Global for about two weeks, and although that doesn't seem like a long time, I learned so much about the organization as well as saw what they were doing first hand. Curamericas Global partners with communities in order to give women and children health resources/education. That education continues long after volunteers from Curamericas Global have left the area, because now the information is being taught to each generation. They are truly doing amazing work!
Curamericas Global is an amazing non-profit that helps end suffering for women and children in under served communities. Their community-based, impact-oriented methodology has made a difference in the lives of thousands of women and children, and supports their communities in a culturally-sensitive, sustainable way. I had the privilege of volunteering with this organization in 2018, and learned invaluable knowledge about global health. I recommend donating or volunteering with Curamericas!
Curamericas is a non-profit organization that strives to create a world free of suffering from treatable and preventable causes. They work with communities around the world that have some of the highest child and maternal mortality rates. To effectively help these communities they focus on prevention, health education and establishing relationships with existing health facilities. The staff is extremely friendly and is always ready to give more information on some of their work. I highly recommend reaching out to this organization if you or someone you know needs assistance. I also encourage anyone who is willing and able to, to help! Curamericas does amazing work and provides many opportunities to help communities all over the world.
Curamericas is an outstanding organization that values community-based efforts with culturally-appropriate pathways. Its members deeply understand how to translate solidarity into progress towards global health equity. As an intern, I have had such a positive experience working with the pastoral professionals that comprise its staff. They truly stand on the shoulders of giants, constantly seeking new ways to build on past experiences to grow towards a brighter tomorrow for mothers and children in need.
Curamericas Global is an amazing organization that does much-needed work in remote communities that would otherwise be neglected. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be a programs intern and assist with the Guatemala program. For me, it was especially meaningful because I spent many of my formative years in Guatemala and I am of Guatemalan descent. It was great to be able to find a local organization that helps mothers and children in need of some basic life-saving services. The staff and volunteers are all genuinely invested in the cause and work together to achieve and exceed their goals. I highly recommend volunteering, interning, donating, and/or getting involved in any capacity with this fantastic group of people doing fantastic things.
As an intern at Curamericas Global, I was able to gain hands-on experience and learn about the different aspects that allow non-profit organizations to function. Curamericas stands out from other organizations because of their proven methodology. Not only have they been extremely successful in providing healthcare to under served communities, they also place high importance on creating strong relationships with the local people in the areas that they work in. For any type of aid, this is key is being respectful of a community and its culture. This community-based model is one every non-profit should follow! I am proud to have been involved with such passionate people in an organization that truly puts those they are helping first. Whether you are a volunteer, intern, or donor, Curamericas Global should be your first choice.
Curamericas Global is an inspiring organization that partners with underserved communities across the globe to save the lives of women and children through health care and education. Their motto, “Hope through Health,” represents their vision of a world free of suffering from treatable and preventable causes. I am most impressed with the effectiveness of their global work. They pride themselves on sustainability, equity, compassion, date-drivenness, and empowerment. The volunteers radiate passion for their cause and they are always coming up with creative ideas to gain support. I am impressed with Curamericas dedication to their mission.
¬Curamericas Global is an excellent organization that is helping save the lives of mothers and children around the world. The welcoming, friendly, and passionate staff work with local leaders of communities to align their mission, methods, and resources to achieve their goal. Help Curamericas Global reach their goal of preventable child and maternal deaths by 2035 by volunteering or donating today!
Curamericas is a global leader in being an example of how to make results not only effective but sustainable. Besides the amazing and friendly staff, their passion for saving the lives of mothers and children around the world moves mountains. Unlike other organizations, Curamericas implements a community-based impact oriented methodology, which essentially allows for not only the organization, but local leaders of the community to come together to create solutions. I believe that this an organization that is not only deserving on donations, but also is an amazing opportunity for volunteering!
Curamericas Global is a fantastic organization that not only works stupendously to reach their goals of lowering maternal death rates in impoverished communities, but also succeeds at doing so. Their community-based approach is incredibly effective and utilizes every dollar that is donated to the organization to the best effect. This is the kind of donor-to-community model that needs to be seen in more organizations and non-profits! If you're looking to have your dollars be put to the best use, choose Curamericas!
I have had the opportunity to volunteer with Curamericas on two trips to Guatemala so far. The organization empowers the local communities and the local people. The love and support the people that aren't being noticed. I will continue to support and go on trips with them in the future!
Curamericas serves as an example of how to make an impact. As a former Intern, I can attest to the passion with which the Board of Directors, Staff, and Volunteers of this organization approach their mission to make measurable, sustainable, and meaningful improvements in health outcomes among underserved populations. Trust, expertise, professionalism and enthusiasm are just some of the words that I would use to describe this organization and its people. Whether you are looking to support community at home or abroad, I can guarantee that Curamericas values and makes the most of all contributions to make a difference in the lives of thousands of mothers and children around the globe. It is with confidence that I say Curamericas is one of the best global health organizations in North Carolina if not the United States.
I had the amazing opportunity to intern for Curamericas Global in 2017. The staff is extremely passionate and dedicated to the organization and its mission of providing sustainable healthcare for women and children in forgotten communities. Globally, the great work they do promotes change and helps communities create a lasting difference. Their approach to community-based healthcare, partnering with local communities, is what makes this nonprofit so inspiring. It’s a privilege to be able to work here and I’m excited to see what the future holds for myself here at this wonderful organization.
I am a volunteer and have gone on a mission trip with this organization. My trip far exceeded my expectations from the start. Everyone I encountered welcomed me with open arms and if I could id go back in a heartbeat. This organization helped me find my passion for helping others that are in need.
Curamericas Global is a compelling organization that is evidence-based and compassion driven. Their innovative approach really saves lives! Around the world, people are leading healthier happier lives because of Curamericas! I am excited to continue my internship and do all that I can for this wonderful organization.
Curamericas is a wonderful organization that saves the lives of mothers and children in underserved communities. This organization has been so helpful in their partner communities by providing health services and community education.
Their work makes a huge impact and works to directly with these communities so that these programs are sustainable for the future. It’s a privilege to intern for this organization and work with their staff. If you’re looking for an organization to support, you’re in the right place!
I'd like to share what comes to mind when I think about what a strong global non-profit organization is and why Curamericas meets all of my criteria. To me, a strong organization is one that considers, researches, and measures the needs of the populations they wish to help rather than assuming that their intervention is needed. A strong organization takes into account the reality that "our way" of doing things isn't applicable everywhere and then takes the steps necessary to work WITH a community rather than FOR it. And because of this, a strong organization educates populations and integrates locals in order to provide sustainable, long-lasting change and improvement in a community. Curamericas fits my idea of a strong non-profit organization perfectly. They are not a "one and done"/quick-fix type of organization that makes an appearance in a community and never follows-up. Curamericas genuinely cares for the people they reach and models their work in such a way that communities can benefit from the organization's services and partnerships long after the volunteers have left. Curamericas is an exemplary organization in every way!
Curamericas Global is a great organization that works hard to save the life of women and children in local communities across the globe. They use methods that will aid the community well beyond their stay by working alongside the locals. Thus, locals are able to gain skills and knowledge to help their community in the long run. Through the use of health education and prevention and promotion of health, Curamericas has shown to improve the lives of the women and children significantly. As an intern, I am glad to be working alongside people who have clear goals and want to make a significant impact on the communities they reach.
Curamericas Global, an international nonprofit, with financial and managerial support from “partner” communities, established Casas Maternas in 3 municipalities located in the isolated northwestern highlands of Guatemala—an area with high maternal mortality ratio (636 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births). Casas Maternas are maternal health facilities that provide vital health services, encourage local accountability through staffing local people and provide a safe environment where cultural norms and traditions are respected. Traditional birth attendants are encouraged to bring patients for delivery at the Casas Maternas, where trained staff are present and access to referral care is facilitated.
I feel that Curamericas is one of the few organizations that actually promotes change and development, not just charity. Instead of throwing money at a problem and hoping it will fix itself, this organization partners with communities to help them help themselves. I am very proud to be associated with Curamericas knowing first hand that they are saving lives and changing the world.
I've worked with a lot of nonprofits through the years but Curamericas Global is by far one of the best organizations I've had the pleasure of working with. I had the opportunity to serve as an international volunteer and an office intern at their headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a volunteer at their site in Guatemala, I learned how healthcare was outside of the U.S and saw the great work Curamericas Global was doing abroad. Curamericas Global works hard to serve the mothers and children around the world while simultaneously showing their appreciation for their donors, volunteers, and interns. I'm proud to be a member of this organization and I will continue to support the fantastic work they do across the globe.
My fellow classmates and I went to the Curamericas Global site in Calhuitz, Guatemala in 2011 and I still hold that experience very dear to my heart. Curamericas Global is such a fantastic nonprofit organization that not only helps you give back but also helps you every step of the way from organizing your trip to interacting with the natives to ensuring your safety to enjoying your days in a new country. Through Curamericas Global, we learned about the different ways to help the kids and adults in Calhuitz as well as enjoy the Guatemalan beauty that we were constantly surrounded by. We had hands on experience with the babies by weighing them and giving them medical shots as well as help build part of a hospital for women, Casa de Materna. We also had the privilege to have such a passionate, lively, and dedicated person of service like Andrew Herrera to guide, protect and mentor us throughout our trip in Guatemala. Curamericas Global educates people of the healthcare in other countries and strives to improve it in areas like Guatemala, Bolivia and Haiti. I am so thankful I got to be a part of Curamericas Global and this organization gave me an experience that I still happily reflect on to this day.
I was excited to spend my time immediately after college graduation with Curamericas staff, learning about program development in maternal and child health projects in Guatemala. The staff is remarkable; they do the work of a staff of 20+, eve though they were only a staff of 6 when I was there. I also really loved their model, where they train community health workers in their project country sites in order to encourage local human capital and create sustainability in their programming. I really respect the work they are doing and hope to contribute more.
Curamericas offers a hand-up for marginalized populations across the globe. I was privileged to take part in a recent trip to the Guatemalan Highlands for a maternal and infant health project. Saving the lives of mothers keeps the family intact and ultimately helps the community in a very systemic way. The work they do is life changing not only for the people of Guatemala, but for those that travel with them as well.
As an intern with Curamericas Global during the Spring 2016 semester, I really enjoyed working on meaningful projects with all staff members. Everyone on staff was passionate about the organization and strived to improve maternal and child health, as well as other program areas, in the regions where they worked. It was a great experience with dedicated staff with a passion for progress!
I was fortunate enough to go on a recent volunteer trip to Guatemala with Curamericas. It's one thing to make a monetary donation and see photos of what the money is doing, it's another to experience first hand what the money is doing. Curamericas is doing great work in some of the most isolated and desperate areas in the world. Saving women and babies' lives before/during/after birth is happening in these remote places because of Curamericas work with the local communities. They respect the beliefs and traditions of the locals and let the locals take the lead on making the health clinics their own. The staff at the clinics were very grateful for the support from donors and volunteers. There is great pride and ownership in the community for the health clinics and the lives they are saving. The staff in the US at Curamericas puts their hearts and souls into their work as well. I am a firm believer in lifting up others and Curamericas Global is doing just that.
I had the privilege of joining Curamericas on a volunteer trip to Guatemala in August 2016. I was humbled and inspired by their meaningful efforts. They have set out an ambitious (some might even think unattainable) objective: to lift the health of new mothers, their infants, and their children in the places with the highest infant mortality rates in world. On the trip, I saw firsthand that they were succeeding. Progress will necessarily come incrementally. But Curamericas is moving, and will continue to move, their partner communities in the right direction. A particularly impressive aspect of Curamericas efforts is that they do not impose what they perceive as “right”. Rather, they begin only after being asked to participate by entire communities. The efforts are organized by people, and the ownership of those communities in the process makes the possibility of continued success seem real.
When seeking opportunities to further my experience and knowledge in Women's Public health, I discovered Curamericas' Global. I began volunteering during my first year as an MPH graduate student. The knowledge I have acquired regarding global health, women's health, child health and serving under-served populations has enhanced my current studies and will positively impact and contribute to my future global health career. I have been collaborating with compassionate and focused Curamericas' team members. I am inspired by their dedication to mitigate suffering, as well as their data driven results of improving health in under-served communities around the globe. I have enjoyed my experience as a Curamericas' volunteer and would love to be more involved in the future on a service trip abroad or during my graduate school internship.
I feel so lucky to be having the opportunity to intern at Curamericas Global, learning from dedicated staff members who truly care for maternal and child health in neglected communities. What I find most unique about Curamericas are evidence-based, data-driven projects that they are proven to be making difference and improving the lives of mothers and children in developing countries. As a student studying in Global Health, I hope more students can volunteer and learn about Curamericas Global and expand their knowledge.
When I learned about Curamericas, I felt an instant connection. Growing up in South America I have seen a lot of poverty in my country. I've seen mothers and children living in such precarious conditions in areas with no running water or electricity and just a cardboard over their heads as a roof. As a mother now, I can't imagine living in such living conditions and facing all these difficulties every day. Reading about what Curamericas does in poor communities all over the world, it touched my heart, so I became a volunteer five months ago. The staff and interns at Curamericas are remarkable people. They are kind, generous, genuine, hardworking people. I'm so honor to be part of this organization.
I have the honor of being a current intern at Curamericas Global. The staff here is so incredibly dedicated and passionate about the amazing work that Curamericas does. I even worked along side other students to start a Curamericas Club at my college because I so strongly support the work that they do. Curamericas' approach to community-based health care is innovative and inspiring. The idea of helping a community become self-sustainable rather than just bringing in healthcare for a week or two and then leaving the community where it started, is something that I had not heard of until working alongside Curamericas. I cannot wait to see what amazing work they do in the future.
My experience with Curamericas Global far exceeded my expectations. As an intern, I was exposed to their internal and external non-profit operations and was thoroughly impressed by the efficient, economical, and professional balance maintained to maximize impact of their efforts. I cannot say enough about the dedicated staff whom I've had the pleasure of working with. They are extremely knowledgeable about global health and are not only mindful of interns' growth as professionals through relevant work assignments, but work towards growth and improvement for Curamericas Global as a whole. This non-profit not only provided me with amazing learning opportunities, but also admirable mentors and career goals of high standards to strive for. I highly recommend anyone become involved with Curamericas and their mission in any way they can whether it be to volunteer, intern, or donate.
I have had the amazing opportunity to intern along side the dedicated staff at Curamericas. This is an amazing nonprofit that is committed to doing the work they say they do. Not only do they work tirelessly at the domestic level, but they are constantly working to develop their many project sites internationally. They are open to growth, honest, and a great resource for anyone looking to explore the Public Health field.
In April of 2016, I had the privilege of accompanying Curamericas Global on a leadership trip to Guatemala. Participating in the leadership trip, as opposed to working at one project site, allowed me to travel to different regions of the country and learn about the cultural and social issues that help and/or hinder the implementation of improved health services and access. This allowed me to fully realize the importance of the community-centered approached that Curamericas uses in different regions of the country. By embracing the local traditions in Guatemala’s highlands, Curamericas was able to shift the negative opinion of those communities towards medical facilities, resulting in a huge increase of mothers choosing to have their children in maternity clinics. Many women we met with said that 100% of the women in their community now give birth in maternity clinics rather than their home.
Countless organizations provide facilities and supplies to communities in need, what makes Curamericas Global unique is their focus on empowering local women through education. Curamericas trains a handful of women in basic health practices to take back to their communities. These women conduct training with other women who lead monthly meetings with small groups of mothers on infant care. When we met with groups of mothers, they told us they consistently attend the monthly meetings because they have seen this education reduce infant deaths in their communities. Walking into maternity clinics and seeing young women who not only have a thorough understanding of maternal and infant healthcare, but demonstrated this to us through numerous charts and graphs demonstrating the success of their work, was really incredible. If Curamericas left Guatemala tomorrow, the knowledge these women possess and continue to share with new mothers in their communities would remain. In my opinion, that is the mark of a successful outreach organization and it was such a pleasure to get to see this success firsthand.
Curamericas is an amazing organization! It has a history of doing great work, and everyone is so kind and helpful. I am so glad I started volunteering!
Curamericas is a great nonprofit with an even better mission. But what makes Curamericas unique is not just their mission but their method. The CBIO (Community based impact oriented) methodology is one that gets the communities that they help involved in creating solutions to their problems versus just being spoon fed help that doesn't target the roots of the problem. Curamericas does great work and I look forward to working with them in the future as well.
