I came across The Lincoln Center when searching for help for my 13 year old son who was suffering from severe Depression, Anxiety and PTSD. He was completely refusing to go to school and all the medicines and therapies were not helping. I knew my son needed a therapeutic type school that could put his mental wellbeing first and academics second. Most of the alternate schools in our area are for students with behavior type issues. Being surrounded by negative behaviors from his peers only made things worse for him, so I knew these others schools would not help him. I found The Lincoln Center's Leadership Academy after doing lots of research on the web. We made an appointment to visit the school and immediately knew it was the right fit for him! It was the first time I saw HOPE in my son's eyes in years! And after visiting EVERY alternative school in the area, nothing compared to Lincoln! They offer individual counseling once a week for each student. They have a group counseling session every day. They also have their own off-site Psychiatrist that evaluates your child upon admission to the school and every year there after. They have the cutest therapy dogs that roam the schools daily loving on all the students! They work closely with your child's outside therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, home school district and most importantly the parents! The teachers there are amazing and are all trained in mental illness. The counselors there are very much involved in all of the school day activities and are ALWAYS available to talk to the students! And the staff have amazing communication with the parents WHENEVER it is needed. The school has an open concept layout, which my son loves, since he was always a victim of bullying that was always "never seen" happening! Lincoln was not one of the approved private schools contracted with our district, since at that time it was a fairly new school. But we insisted he go there! Upon the school district visiting the school and learning what Lincoln has to offer students, they signed a contract. My son has been going to Lincoln's Leadership Academy now for almost 4 years. He now goes to school EVERY DAY without a fight. His grades went from D's and F's to A's! He has been able to wean down on his psych. meds and has not needed nearly as much outpatient therapy as before going to Lincoln. His future seems much brighter now. We have peace in our home again. He is able to talk about his traumatic past instead of harboring it. He actual enjoys going to school now and has friends and teachers that "get it"! He is finally HAPPY and has HOPE once again! And so do I! Thank you, Thank you Lincoln!

Finding the Leadership Academy for my son has been a Godsend. He needed more emotional support and a smaller class size than his public school could provide. He is with other students that have similar struggles that he can relate to and feel like apart of something for once. No other alternative school even came close to the amount of group and individual counseling sessions they provide for their students.
