Review for Schnauzer Ranch & Friends TX inc, Sanger , TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My first experience with Schnauzer Ranch & Friends Inc. happened when I noticed a darling little paraplegic miniature schnauzer, only a year old, posted in emergency for rescue at BARC animal services in Houston, TX, a kill shelter. I immediately became concerned and wanted to help, because I own and care for a paraplegic miniature schnauzer and disabled dogs are my heart. But I live in FL, and although my dad lives in Houston, TX, I would not be able to get to him to rescue him in time, so I was at a loss for what to do. I contacted local rescues. One did pull him, but realized they were not up to the task of caring for such a dog that had special needs, and called out for any rescue to help with this dog, as his foster could only keep him a limited time. I reached out to that rescue and said I knew a FL rescue that would take him and I would foster, but we had to try to arrange a transport. Then they informed me that Schnauzer Ranch & Friends Inc had stepped up to save the schnauzer, and was on their way to pick him up as we were speaking! I was surprised. Very few rescues take on a paraplegic dog, and even fewer still that don't specialize in disabled dog rescue, but this rescue believed in this dog, that he deserved a second chance at life and living and immediately came to his rescue when called. They ended up naming him Thor, and although Thor's paralysis is irreversible like my schnauzer's, they got him a cart, and he became a loving member of the rest of the pack at the ranch. I contacted Andy at the Ranch to see if I could offer any advice, having cared for my own paraplegic schnauzer for several years by then and also to offer my many thanks for rescuing him, and I was so impressed with how quickly they learned to care for a dog with special needs like Thor, how committed they were to giving him the best life, and how much they loved him already. So I knew he was in the place he was meant to be, even though, I would have loved to have another paraplegic schnauzer, as my heart has been with disabled dogs ever since rescuing my first one, born with a congenital malformation of the spine, causing paralysis in her hind end. So I'm so glad the Ranch has Thor and takes the worst cases of dogs consistently, the oldest dogs that all rescues refuse, consistently, and any dog that needs rescuing. They really rescue every dog they can and it doesn't matter how old, how sick, how cute, how healthy, or how friendly the dog is. They are the real deal in rescue, and have saved many lives and many schnauzers and made any schnauzers who were too old to adopt out, the best years of their lives. I cannot say enough good things about this rescue, and I urge everyone to help and support them and adopt from them as well.
