Review for Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust, Colorado Spgs, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

In March 2000, I became a homeowner in the Land Trust's Affordable Homeownership Program. As a young, single mother with a small son I would not have been able to purchase a home on my own. During the 10 years we have lived in our home we have been able to adopt a couple basset hounds from the local rescue, plant a garden in our own backyard every summer, and my son had his own fort/play area growing up. Just after purchasing my home I was elected to the RMCLT Board of Directors where my thoughts and opinions as a homeowner in the program were valued. I was Vice-President on the Board from 2007-2009. A position on the RMCLT Staff became open in August of 2009. My background in the Program, commitment to volunteering at the office whenever possible, and career background led me to apply for the position and complete numerous interviews. I have been the Resource Development/Community Outreach Coordinator at the Land Trust for almost a year now. Seeing how this non-profit is run as a client, board member, and now as a staff member, it never ceases to amaze me at what lengths the Land Trust is willing to go to help the families in our community!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have been a homeowner in RMCLT's Affordable Homeowership Program for over 10 years now.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I honestly cannot think of any changes that I would make to the Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have enjoyed all of my experiences with the Land Trust, from client, to volunteer, to Board Member, to staff member!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

All of the volunteers and staff at RMCLT are great people. I enjoy meeting other families in the Program, and sharing experiences with them. One of my goals as a staff member is to help create even more of a sense of community for Land Trust families!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Reach out to and help every family in our community that qualifies for the Program. Marketing the program sometimes takes a backseat to other projects, and I know there are numerous families that could qualify for their own homes if they were aware of it!

Ways to make it better...

I have never had a bad experience with the Land Trust in the 10 + years I have been a part of the program.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

In the current economy, with high unemployment rates,low-income families are struggling more than ever. Families in the Land Trust Program are no different, and RMCLT spends an amazing amount resources on struggling families to help them remain homeowners!

One thing I'd also say is that...

I greatly appreciate all of the opportunities I have had thanks to the Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
