I debated commenting on this because it's not something I normally do. We adopted a dog from this rescue that we love and are very grateful that this organization saves dogs from high-kill shelters, because our doggie would likely have been overlooked. I'll admit, the contract had some clauses that I wasn't thrilled with, but I've rescued other dogs in the past and had much more invasive applications. So, much of it seemed standard to me, and we were fortunate that our dog did not get sick. We did foster to adopt because she still needed spayed. They did mention when I asked that I could have her spayed at my vet at my own expense. I could adopt then after showing proof. I opted to go with their procedure instead and though travelling to Aloha was inconvenient, everything worked out. I guess I figured that ATR developed that contract after they had people that rescued animals and did not treat the animal properly. I get that. Not everyone is cut out to raise a dog and some people should never have one. The staff was not particularly personable, but it was fine. I followed the rules, to the letter- and we have our wonderful dog and she is an amazi ng part of our family. It's sad to me that there is so much conflict, because I think the organization is/was trying to really help animals. I don't think that's an easy task and I think that the process is typically stressful for everyone. I've adopted 6 dogs since 1991 and I recall being a little stressed with each one. I hope the issues can be resolved, because I want other dogs, like ours, to have a chance.
