Review for HUMANE ANIMAL TREATMENT SOCIETY, Mt. Pleasant, MI, USA

Rating: 1 stars

I took my 8 month old male cat to get neutered and micro chipped. Upon picking him up, he was SOAKED in urine and had been in his carrier for hours instead of a clinic kennel. He was shoved roughly into my arms (despite just having had surgery) and nothing was explained, I just received a packet of paperwork. Later, I called on 3 different occasions to access his microchip info. Every time I went on the website, it said his chip # was registered, but not to my email. The same guy (I swear) answered the phone at least 2 of my 3+ calls, and didn't take down any information at all. They didn't get any contact info and didn't even bother getting my cats name! Every time I called back (over a period of a month) they claimed some new issue, even insinuated it was my fault, or the company's fault. So I called the chip company today, gave them the chip # and lo-and-behold, guess who didn't add my email! I'm so frustrated and fed up, HATS was completely unapologetic about the treatment of my cat and the microchip process, it was unreal. I worked at a vet for over a year and a half, and these people DO NOT care about your pet, nor are they experienced enough to safely care for them. I'm happy the microchip company helped me sort things out, were friendly and helpful. Also upset because I've worked hard to get my animals comfortable being in a carrier/going to the vet, and they've completely ruined that training and traumatized my cat. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I've heard horror stories from a coworker who worked there previously, and in a mature display of professionalism they blocked her on all social media. DON'T BRING YOUR PET HERE FROM MEDICAL TREATMENT.

(Note: I am by no means discouraging adoption of their animals. No matter how poorly trained, careless and rude the staff is, that doesn't mean the animals there don't deserve kind and loving homes. I implore you, as a former veterinary assistant, animal lover and multi-pet mom, please don't seek medical attention here, but if you're looking for a new companion, adopt!)
