Review for All Terrier Rescue Hunters Crossing Inc, Aloha, OR, USA
My family recently adopted a puppy with ATR and we had the opportunity to get to know Samantha and crew through the process. I don't know if I've met a person more passionate about dogs and rescuing dogs that would have otherwise been euthanized in high kill shelters. Samantha lives her passion everyday. ATR places around 1200 dogs a year in good homes. In the 26 years they've been working to save dogs, they have saved over 31,000 dogs. Not bad for a non-profit that is run on a tiny budget. The dogs they are trying to save and find homes for are not often in good shape. They've been on the streets, have been hurt by humans in the past and/or have been living in crowded shelters. ATR needs loving families to foster and/or adopt dogs and puppies. They have rules about how you go through that process and are up front about that. We adopted a puppy that required additional medicine and ATR supplied that. We understand that when ATR has lined up a Vet to provide services for spay and neutering....we will make ourselves available and get the puppy there. Same for additional vaccinations until the adoption is complete.
Samantha invited our family to tour the kennels and see ATR at work with the dogs. Staff were working hard to keep dogs fed and clean. The facility is large with separate space for puppies and dogs that were ill, who needing extra care. The main space held dogs in generous sized kennels with open space for the dogs to play together in the fresh air. It is a tremendous amount of work for three people to care for these dogs and help them find forever homes.
I am personally in awe of this work and the passion that fuels it. Ultimately, it is about saving dogs like the one my family adopted. We can't imagine life without our dog.
