Review for SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA KEESHOND RESCUE, INC. [SCKR], Rhome, TX, USA
I have had Keeshond dogs since 1983 when I adopted my first one from Southern California Keeshond Rescue. I adopted my second Kees in 1994 at which time I met Susan McCoy and became familiar with her organization and everything they do for their rescued Keeshonden.
I began volunteering for SCKR after I adopted my third Kees, a puppy, and knew in my heart that this nonprofit was one consistent with what was important to me when rescuing a dog. A potential adopter must fill out a seven page adoption application, have a telephone interview, have 3 personal references checked, a veterinary reference checked and then these are reviewed by the Board of Directors and then, if approved, a home visit is conducted by one of their volunteers. Once approved after the home visit, the applicant is placed on the waiting list.
When a Kees is brought into SCKR, they go directly to their veterinarian for an exam, a senior screen, a heart worm test, a fecal and vaccines. Any medical needs including teeth cleaning, spay or neuter, or other necessary care is taken care of prior to placement. Once medical care is taken care of, the dog is placed in one of their approved foster homes to assess his/her personality and what kind of placement will be best for the dog. Their goal is not to simply place the rescued Kees in a home but to place them in the right home based on their individual needs in order to ensure the best forever home for every rescued Keeshond. I am
proud to recommend SCKR as one of the greatest nonprofits.

SCKR, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) breed specific dog rescue organization. I have had Keeshond rescue dogs since the 1982. I adopted my second Keeshond from SCKR in 1994 and have been involved as a volunteer since 2003. I am proud to volunteer for SCKR, to adopt my Keeshonden through them and to represent them doing review of applications, reference checks, telephone interviews, home visits and fostering the rescue dogs. Representing a rescue organization that prides itself not just in placing dogs in a new home but placing the Keeshonden in the right home is a joy. Every family is different as is every dog and SCKR wants to be confident that this new home will be their forever home. By the time they reach SCKR, they have experienced losing a home, possibly being on the streets or in a shelter, etc., and need no additional trauma in their lives. All the rescues are fostered prior to placement, there are no kennels. Volunteers learn about the dogs’ personalities, preferences, and whether or not they are good with other dogs or cats, All the Keeshonden have been cleared medically prion to placement having had a thorough exam, blood panel, urinalysis, fecal, heart worm tests, spay or neuter if necessary as well as teeth cleaning if needed. SCKR remains committed to the rescues for the entirety of their lives. If for any reason the family is unable to care for the dog, the SCKR contract requires that the dog be returned to SCKR.
In my opinion, there is no better dog rescue organization than SoCA Keeshond Rescue.

I have been adopting Keeshonden from Southern California Keeshond Rescue, Inc. for close to thirty years and I have been proudly volunteering for this rescue organization for twenty years. I am involved with every Keeshond rescued from owner turn ins to shelter rescues and everything in between. All of the SCKR rescue dogs are fully vetted including microchipping, vaccines, complete blood panels, fecal, heart worm tests, teeth cleaning when necessary and spay/neuter when not previously done. Thereafter, our rescued Kees are placed in one of our approved foster homes to be evaluated socially and behaviorally so we can be sure to place our dogs not only in a forever home, but the right forever home. This ensures long term success not only for our dogs but also for our forever families. Our Adoption Contract requires that our rescue Keeshonden be returned to us if for any reason the forever family is not able to care for him/ her going forward.
Our adoptive families fill out an extensive application form, have an in depth telephone interview, have their veterinary and personal references checked and finally an in home visit.
I am recommending Southern California Keeshond Rescue, Inc. as a great nonprofit because there is no other dog rescue organization that can compete with their values and ethics in the treatment of animals who have lost their homes and in securing a new and better future for them.
Thank you, SCKR, for Katie and Luna.

I have had Keeshonden for the last 38 years and first adopted from Southern California Keeshond Rescue in 1994. I first met the founder of this rescue organization, Susan McCoy, when I adopted Mickey, a five year old Kees who had lost his home due to the 1994 earthquake. I was impressed with the way in which the adoption was handled. Since that time, I have adopted Phoebe, Luc, Katie, and Luna as well as fostered many, many Kees on their way to their forever after homes.. I began to volunteer for SCKR in 2003 when I adopted Phoebe and have been with them since that time, 18 years. I am proud to be associated with such a professional, breed specific dog rescue organization. We do our very best to place our rescued Keesonden in not just a home, but the right forever home for that individual dog. We do not use a kennel for our dogs, all our dogs are fostered in homes so that we become aware of the specific needs for each dog. Just as people have differing needs, so do dogs, so we find this makes for a successful match. Prior to placement, our dogs are fully vetted, all medical needs are taken care of and we are secure in the knowledge that we have done everything we can to ensure the placement of a happy, healthy Keeshond. Thank you for your consideration of Southern California Keeshond Rescue.

Southern California Keeshond Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to preventing the harmful treatment of animals through neglect and abandonment, and strives to provide owners a means of locating good loving homes for unwanted pets. With hard work, determination, and donations from our supporters, many great animals are spared and given the opportunity to live nice long healthy lives.
The primary purpose of Southern California Keeshond Rescue, Inc. is to rescue homeless Keeshond dogs, provide the dogs with safe, temporary foster care, and find new permanent homes for them with responsible, qualified owners. In addition, the organization educates the public regarding responsible dog ownership and the humane care of dogs.
I am proud to volunteer for an organization that values not just finding a home for a Keeshond dog, but finding the right home. Our volunteers process applications, conduct telephone interviews, check personal and veterinary references, and conduct home visits prior to an applicant ever meeting a dog available for adoption.
All dogs will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and vaccinations (DHLPP, Rabies, Bordatella) will be given if not already current. Southern California Keeshond Rescue microchips the dogs for permanent identification. The microchip will be implanted prior to adoption. Some dogs have additional health needs, which will be addressed by our veterinarian as necessary. X-rays of hips are not recommended as routine veterinary care, and are not done unless there is a suspected injury or orthopedic condition. Comprehensive blood panels are done along with a heartworm test and a fecal to check for parasites as well as teeth cleaning.
I have adopted 4 Keeshonden through SCKR since 1994 as a client served, have been a volunteer since 2003 and a board member since 2010. I have been a donor for many years. In all the ways in which I have been associated with SCKR, it has been my pleasure to work with a rescue organization with such high standards and ethics.
