For the first 40 years of my life I lived a largely westernized life style - coming from a cosmopolitan family that had several members in the armed forces and living outside of Telugu-speaking regions most of my childhood. Went to English-medium schools all along, watched English movies and read English books/comics. But my father did one thing - we always went back to our ancestral village every year during holidays. I thank him for it as it left a seed of Teluguness inside me. When I moved to the US, I expected to get more westernized; but it was my discovery of SiliconAndhra that changed my life forever. For the past 7 years I have been associated with Manabadi- the Telugu school run by SiliconAndhra. Now I dress traditionally, speak Telugu reasonably well, spend a lot of time researching Telugu history. Thanks to SiliconAndhra the seed that my father sowed has grown into a tree with the nurturing care of SiliconAndhra Manabadi. I have decided that volunteering at SiliconAndhra Manabadi is something I will do lifelong!
