Volunteering at Animal Place really educated me on just how labor-intensive maintaining farm animals can be. The important work that is done at this sanctuary is detrimental to the animals' health and happiness, especially after a large scale rescue. Some of the activities (as a volunteer) include scraping up poop, raking and distributing hay, scrubbing walls, cleaning water/feed bowls, and washing and brushing animals. Through this work, there is also time to give the animals treats and socialize them to help restore their faith and trust in humans after coming from neglectful circumstances. It is difficult but very rewardig work and I have enjoyed volunteering there. The staff, interns, and fellow volunteers are friendly and very dedicated to improve the life of each animal. I was also pleased to learn that most are vegan, or at least vegitarian. If you cannot adopt or donate, I highly recommend volunteering if you can.
