I live in midwestern farm country, where cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, and now even deer and wild turkeys (who are put behind tall fences and "hunted" for "sport") are commercially killed and are hardly viewed as sentient beings. This makes Animal Place all the more special and meaningful to me. My dad rescued a young pig who had escaped from a neighboring farm when I was 13 and the farmer said we could keep him. He became my pet, and I'm glad Animal Place is doing what my did all those years ago.
