Review for Operation Paws for Homes, N.Chesterfield, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As far as I can remember, I always had at least 1-2 dogs at a time throughout my childhood. However, my best friend of all time was Diana, a beautiful gold chested Gordon Setter. Diana was the most gentle, calm, and well-behaved dog I ever had. In 1995, I moved to the US from my native Brazil with my mother and sister and had to leave my Diana behind with my dad. A few years passed and one day I received the sad news of Diana passing away due to ovarian cancer. I was devastated, but I eventually recovered from the shock and cherished all the sweet memories I had with Diana. I promised myself that one day I would have another dog as sweet as Diana again. 20 years passed, now a wife and mother of three great kids, but no dogs yet. In November of 2016, we decided as a family that we were ready for a dog. I wanted my kids to experience the joys as well as the responsibilities of having a dog. We then started looking for different adoption organizations and had already applied to 2 before we came across OPH.

OPH has a great website that is constantly being updated with photos and details about each dog. I saw one specific dog named Nougat and I thought he had the sweetest and calmest face. OPH understood that we were looking for a calm and sweet dog who was also housebroken and they confirmed that Nougat might just be the perfect match for us.

I reached out to Casey (one of the adoption coordinators) and she connected me with Katie who was Nougat's foster mom. Katie was so wonderful! She sent us photos, behavior updates, and was able to schedule Nougat's neutering fast so that we could bring Nougat home during a 3 day weekend so that we could have a little extra time to get him settled down.

The ENTIRE OPH team works hard to make sure each dog is matched with the right family. The application process (forms completion, referral, and approval) took me about 3 weeks or so. We were just waiting to Nougat's neutering to be completed to bring him home. On January 28th, 2017 we met Nougat and it was the perfect match. We call him Shaggy now because it was the name he had in his original paperwork and he already responded to that. He also looks shaggy!

Thank you OPH for patiently working with me in this process. My family absolutely loves Nougat (aka Shaggy) and we could not have been happier!
Thank you for all that you do to make sure dogs have a second chance in life.
