Review for Making Biscuits Cat Rescue, Long Beach, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

On any given Thursday night, I know that Kristie at Making Biscuits won't be going to dinner or seeing a movie, but instead loading up her car with supplies and cages and litter boxes and water trays and folding tables, to get ready to show cats for adoption during the weekend. Earlier in the day, she probably went to SNP LA to get a TNR kitty fixed, and the day before that she was probably out humanely trapping a stray cat in someone's backyard. And that's IN ADDITION to her everyday duties--taking care of her own rescues, feeding them, cleaning up after them, giving meds, finding donors, answering emails, doing paperwork, talking to potential adopters, taking the time to give advice to strangers that she would meet when shopping for pet food, or doing cat laundry, or any of the dozens of errands that need to be done. It's dizzying. And when the weather gets really warm like this past summer in SoCal, Kristie would tend to every cat, making sure they're laying on cooling pads and getting enough water and attention. Even though I've volunteered at Making Biscuits and I talk to Kristie regularly (I’ve known her for more than 17 years), I lose track of what she does because there's so much.

You know the stereotypical mother/grandmother that always has the right supply in her purse, like a clean tissue or band-aid? Kristie has that, but with animal rescue stuff. She'll have emergency cat food, a humane trap, food and water bowls, cleaning supplies, litter, always at the ready, wherever she is, just in case she runs into a stray cat that needs it or someone that needs immediate help. Whatever the word is that's beyond tireless, that's Kristie, even though I know she does get tired, extremely tired. But it seems like there's always a cat or an owner that needs help, or even just someone to talk to about their dilemma, and Kristie is right there, with her overworked phone that's always getting texts and calls and emails, and her knowledge that's only surpassed by the best veterinarians around, and sometimes I think she knows even more than they do.

If I were to really tell you everything that she does, you wouldn't believe me. If I were to really tell you all that she's been through, you would wish you had all the money and resources in the world and give it to her. I wish that all the time, and I've heard it from others who have worked with her. If any of us gets a break in life, wins the lottery or something, there would be no hesitation. Give it to Making Biscuits, because Kristie and the cats deserve it.

In case you didn't already realize it, cats absolutely love her and gravitate toward her, and people admire and are in awe of her. My dad, who never thought twice about the Humane society and animal rights and rescue, when I mention the latest thing that Kristie has done to save yet another cat, he shakes his head in disbelief and amazement. "She doesn't let anything stop her from helping cats, does she?" he once asked. The answer is obvious.
