Review for Caring Hearts Rescue, Springfield, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Caring Hearts is top of my list of non-profits. Caring, dedicated, well-organized, good stewardship of resources. I especially appreciate their dedication to the welfare of senior dogs who are not easily adoptable. This is a major need for funding. And I gladly give every year.

Caring Hearts rescued my dear adopted shih tzu Lilly in absolutely dreadful shape and spent almost a year bringing her "back to life" -- and more than that, to a beautiful, happy companion who was a great blessing in my life. I cannot thank them enough.

Sabina Poinelli, who heads up this organization is the most fabulous, caring person I have ever met. Caring Hearts take such excellent care of their rescue dogs and make sure they have all the medical and other attention they need, fostering them for as long as necessary to nurse them back to health no matter what their condition when found. Because they rescue dogs that are often in terrible shape, they need generous donors to do their wonderful work. My precious Lilly is one of those dogs that required a large investment of time and money. I have been donating for years and believe they spend the donations very wisely. They truly deserve to be a top-rated nonprofit.

I would like to echo one of the other 5 star reviews: Responsive, professional, compassionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable describes the Caring Hearts Rescue volunteers that I worked with when adopting my Lilly.

I found Lilly on Adopt a Pet and contacted Caring Hearts Rescue. Sabina got back in touch and we had a conversation about why I might be the right Mom for Lilly, who was 7 at the time. I filled out the application, received a response and made an appointment to go to Springfield, VA to meet her. Lilly's story touched my heart -- Sabina took her from a shelter where would have been euthanized since she weighed only 5 pounds and was very sick. The shelter would not have been able to rehabilitate her for adoption. Sabina, on the other hand, took her home and nursed her back to health for 10 months before offering her for adoption! Please note that the shelter called her to take Lilly -- because local shelters know the kind of rescue that Caring Hearts is.

Sabina explained to me that she would only adopt her to someone who would treat her as the princess she is. I said that is exactly what I would do. She is now a happy, healthy, 13 pound shih tzu who is the love of my life. I cannot imagine my days without her.

Sabina provided great guidance and support at the time of her adoption and continued to respond quickly to any questions I had over the last 3 years Lilly has been with me. She periodically goes back to stay with Sabina when I travel. I also contribute to this rescue organization.

I have attached a video of her story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAuZaSbf3cs. It is hard to watch because she was in such terrible shape. But it is a testament to the lengths Caring Hearts Rescue will go to to save the life of a dog, no matter what their condition.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them more money and more volunteers!
