My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Lackey Ministries, Houston, TX, USA
I first got to know about this non- profit when I was doing my thirds year field work placement as a social work student. I was exposed to different cases that really exposed me to the human struggle and the problems at the grassroots levels in rural Botswana. I continued to work with this non-profit when I stared working in a job position at the local hospital Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital. The lackeys ministries under the Love Botswana outreach mission would bring the clients especially from Lorato house which are mostly neglected or disabled children to all their medical appointments and even seeked hep from my office as a clinical social worker for counseling and further referral. This non profit works even beyond their working hours because this line of work has a lot of emergencies.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Seek allowances for volunteers because volunteerism is still a new phenomenon in Botswana. It's a life changing experience to be exposed to the different programs done by the Lackey ministries. The non profit is unable to employ a large number of people. But I believe that an incentive like an allowance would be beneficial because it would expose nationals to relevant skills but also reward them.
