Review for Global Autism Project, Brooklyn, NY, USA
The experience to participate in a SkillCorps trip with the Global Autism Project starts before you even step foot in the office. The organization establishes personal growth as well as the growth and development of the partners we work with in country. Each aspect of the Global Autism Project pushes you in some way to reach a new potential, whether it is fund raising, experiencing a new country and language, or working to support the staff and students at the centers. This organization does something uniquely different and I knew instantly that I would be traveling with them again after my first trip. The Global Autism Project certainly focuses on promoting awareness and acceptance of autism, but it goes beyond that as well. To provide information and trainings to support the centers in providing the children with autism with best practice for therapy is on going. Your job does not end after the 2 weeks, it continues to develop and establish itself in the center and the ways in which the staff work with the students. This is quite incredible really; to know that you have not just made an impact in those 2 weeks, but to know that the work you have put in will continue to support and change the lives of the students, their families, and the staff, makes the Global Autism Project much more than just a volunteer opportunity. This is what makes it an exceptional nonprofit with the capability to make lasting change for communities around the globe.
